Petauke Water Reportedly Poisoned

EASTERN Water and Sanitation Company (EWSC) is investigating reports of possible water poisoning in Petauke district. Public relations officer Moses Nsunge said the company has received reports of possible water poisoning at its major source in Petauke. Mr Nsunge said the company is treating the reports with urgency they deserve.

He, however, said in statement yesterday that initial findings indicate that the water is safe for consumption. “We wish to assure members of the public that our water is very safe for consumption.

However, further investigations are being done into this matter,” Mr Nsunge said. He said the water utility has reported the matter of possible water poisoning in Petauke to the police so that they can help with investigations. Mr Nsunge advised members of the public against spreading the rumour of possible water poisoning because they risk being cited for alarming people.

He said all water installations in the province are under tight security. Some Petauke residents have reportedly stopped using water from EWSC due to rumours of poisoning.
