A TWENTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD man has appeared before the Matero Local Court after his wife’s father found him with a girlfriend. Elizabeth Banda, 26, of Matero told the local court that her father found Mike Banda with a girlfriend and rebuked him. She testified that in 2016 her father found her husband with a woman at a certain place of which he admitted and apologised about it. But later, another woman from Solwezi called to inform her that she was pregnant for her husband.

Elizabeth told the court that Mike abandoned her and went to live with another woman at his parents’ house in Bauleni Township. She told the court in a case of marriage reconciliation that he has neglected her and rarely provides money for rentals and upkeep. Elizabeth said: “I am tired of my husband’s promiscuous behaviour, our families have sat down on several occasions but he has not changed.” Mike in his defence told the court that Elizabeth brings different men to the couple’s house. He said at one time he found three different men sleeping on the sofa and his wife introduced them as cousins.

“Last time a man came to knock on our window, my wife came out of the house and went to chat with him on the roadside, the man asked who I was and Elizabeth said I am the father of her child,” Mike said. He told the court that he found another man wearing a jersey he bought for his wife. Mike said he has been missing some of his clothes and suspects his wife gives her boyfriends. In passing judgement magistrate Pauline Newa dismissed the claim for reconciliation on grounds that both parties were not willing to reconcile.
