AN ARROGANT man of Buchi Township was last week tamed by the Buchi Local Court after he was ordered to pay K10,000 as compensation for damage. Christopher Munaula, who failed to give any statement to the court, cried foul and told the court that he does not work and is only kept by his parents after the court ordered him to compensate Constance Mukunkuto with K10,000 for damaging her daughter.
Mukunkuto sued Munaula for compensation for damaging her daughter. Mukunkuto told the court that in August 2018, her daughter ran away from home to live with Munaula. She said after making efforts to get her daughter back, the dauhgter refused to return home , forcing the mother to go with some of her relatives to discuss the issue with Munaula’s family. Mukunkuto said the meeting never took off because Munaula’s family was not receptive of them.
She said she later received a call from her sister who informed her that her daughter had been chased by Munaula. Mukunkuto complained that she has found it difficult to charge Munaula for damage because she does not get along with his parents. She also complained about Munaula’s arrogance whom she said has no respect for her. “I want the court to order Munaula to pay me K15, 000 for damage because our two families have failed to reach an agreement,” she said. Mukunkuto also complained that Munaula has never bought anything for his child apart from the napkins he bought before the baby was born. Munaula stunned the court when he said that he had nothing to say in his statement.
Buchi senior local magistrate Patricia Mulwimba ordered Munaula to compensate Mukunkuto with K10, 000 by K350 monthly instalments. Magistrate Mulwimba also reprimanded the girl for opting to get pregnant at the expense of going to school
