Mountain prayers yield pregnancy

A PASTOR at Shekinah God Ministry International in New Twapia Township in Ndola has been dragged to Kabushi Local Court for impregnating a member of the church during prayers at a mountain. Tandabika Lucky, 47, of New Twapia, sued John Kabwe, 36, for allegedly damaging his daughter’s virginity and is seeking compensation.

The plaintiff told Kabushi Local Court senior magistrates Agness Muswema Mulenga, Mildred Namwizye and Evelyn Nalwizya that the defendant was a fake pastor and that he wanted his K8,000 which he charged him. The plaintiff told the court that the defendant paid bride price of K200 in 2013 and in 2019 impregnated the plaintiff’s daughter, whom he promised to marry. He was charged K12,000 which was reduced to K8,000 and from that time he had not paid anything. “He came home one day and started beating my daughter and I was very angry.

She gave birth in October and after three months, I heard that the defendant found my daughter and again beat her up,” he said. The plaintiff reported the defendant to police, where he was charged for assault and he was later released. But the defendant, who admitted the claim, said he failed to pay K8,000 because he differed a lot with the plaintiff’s daughter and that the church started going down. Christabel Tandabika, 23, testified against the defendant that he has only seen the child once when she was two weeks old.

“In 2019, we went to Luanshya for prayers and I became pregnant. We went for prayers at the mountain and we would differ a lot,” he said. She said the pastor now lives with another woman. The court upheld the claim and ordered the defendant to compensate the plaintiff with K10,000, with the first instalment of K2,000 and thereafter K500 per month.
