IN WHAT can be described as a desperate tactic to earn money, a woman of Kitwe acquired a fake medical report suggesting that she was pregnant as proof so that she could deceive her boyfriend. Evelyn Kanyankula, who had a medical report signed by a doctor at Ipusukilo Clinic, stunned the Kitwe Local Court after she tested negative to a second pregnancy test. This is after the court ordered her to undergo another test after she dragged her boyfriend, Dennis Mwaba, to court for pregnancy support.
Kanyankula initially told the court that she started having an affair with her boyfriend in 2018 and later started feeling unwell in June 2019. She said this made her boyfriend to give her money so that she can undergo a pregnancy test which turned out positive. Kanyankula said when she informed Mwaba about her pregnancy, he denied being responsible and advised her to look for the one responsible for the pregnancy. She claimed her boyfriend had never supported her pregnancy from the time she informed him and that he had vowed not to have anything to do with her.
Kanyankula asked the court to order Mwaba to support her pregnancy by buying clothes for her unborn child and giving her money for her upkeep. “I am expecting his child and all I want is for him to take responsibility of his action by supporting my pregnancy,” she said. But Mwaba denied being responsible for the pregnancy and told the court that he never gave Kanyankula money to undergo a pregnancy test.
This made the court to order Kanyankula to undergo a pregnancy test at Kitwe Teaching Hospital which revealed that she was not pregnant. Kitwe local court presiding magistrate Yobe Nkhata sitting with Royd Chinda said the court had proved that Kanyankula was lying and only wanted to dupe Mwaba. The court dismissed the case and reprimanded Kanyankula for lying
