Government has apprehended 3 people and seized a truck that was loaded with maize and mealie meal believed to be smuggled into the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The trio includes two Zambians and a Congolese woman while the truck is reportedly owned by Gurock Investment.

Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Felix Phiri says he is concerned with the artificial shortage of maize being created by some unscrupulous individuals who are hording mealie meal and maize destined for smuggling.

Dr. Phiri says government will remain resolute in ensuring that people who are threatening the food security of the country are punished.
