SOME members of Parliament yesterday joined hundreds of miners who protested against Mopani Copper Mines (MCM)’s suspension of operations in Kitwe and Mufulira. Glencore, the majority shareholder in MCM, has placed its mines in Mufulira and Kitwe under care and maintenance, sending over 11,000 workers on forced leave. The company claims the decision was made following the effects COVID-19 and the low copper prices on the international market. The decision that has not gone well with Government and the miners.
