THE national registration card (NRC) office in Ndola will be closed if people continue to ignore the one-metre social distance directive. Ndola District Commissioner Anthony Katongo has warned that the premises will be shut if people continue to ignore prevention measures against coronavirus. Speaking when he toured the NRC office on Thursday, Mr Katongo has received numerous reports of people not observing personal and social guidelines against COVID-19. “I can’t afford to risk lives of my officers and your [citizens] lives because of failure to adhere to the directive, so if this [lack of social distance] continues, this [NRC] office will be closed,” Mr Katongo said. And Lions Club district 413 has started sensitising communities in five townships and peri-urban areas of the district on COVID-19. The club plans to distribute 7,000 face masks to residents.

Mr Katongo, who flagged off the sensitisation exercise, said the team will target places where dissemination of coronavirus measures has been ineffective. He commended the club for coming up with the initiative, which will supplement Government’s effort to stop the further spread of the disease.
