A CHEF of Lusaka Thelma Muzi has sued her employer’s wife after the latter allegedly cooked a story that she has been having an affair with her boss. Muzi, 35, of Chilenje South dragged Kangwa Mwamba, 45, to court for defamation of character. Muzi said she works as a supervisor at an events company which belongs to Mwamba’s husband. She told the court that she has had a good working relationship with her employer and that she is one of the trusted employees. M u z i l i n k e d M w a m b a ’s accusations to a theft case she had reported to her boss involving her workmate Anne Ngoma. She told the court that when she started work there were issues of misappropriation of funds.
“I reported the irregularities to my boss and we started investigations. One day, a customer came for a photo shoot but the money she paid went missing. She brought a receipt and it had the names of Anne Ngoma, who is also an employee,” she said. Muzi said she had an argument with Ngoma following the loss of the money. She told the court that after that argument with Ngoma, the wife of her boss called her and they sat in her car.
“My boss’s wife locked the car and started accusing me of sleeping with her husband who is my employer, I respect him so much. She called me a prostitute who sleeps with all my employers,” Muzi said. She said after the accusations, she sent a message to her boss to inform him about what his wife told her.
Muzi said Mwamba also asked her to park all her belongings and never to report for work again. She said her boss called and begged her not to stop work because she was one of the trusted employees. In her defence, Mwamba, an accountant, said she is in a fulltime job as an accountant and had no time to check on her husband’s workers. She said one day, she received a call from an unknown caller who informed her that her husband was going out with Muzi.
Mwamba said she confronted Muzi and asked her to stop work as she was no longer comfortable with her around her husband. “An unknown woman called me two times and informed me that Muzi had been sleeping with my husband. I did not blame her but my husband because only a man proposes love to a woman,” she said. Magistrate Gaston Kalala adjourned the matter for judgment.
