FOLLOWING the continued closure of bars and nightclubs, some Kitwe residents have resorted to drinking beer from graveyards. Bars and nightclubs have been closed for over a month as a preventive measure against COVID-19. A check at Nkana East Cemetery over the weekend found a group of people drinking beer without observing the social-distancing measure.
The group stocked beer in vehicles parked a few metres away from graves. Solomon Nganipa, a Nkana East resident, said in an interview that the tendency of people drinking beer from graveyards has been going on for sometime. Mr Nganipa said people have resorted to drinking beer from cemeteries because they are not usually monitored by council police. “It is unfortunate that people have resorted to drinking alcohol from graveyards,” Mr Nganipa said.
