On the 7th of April 2018, President Lungu swore in Mrs. Annette Chirumba Nhekairo as Vice Chairperson of the Electoral Commissioner of Zambia and Mr. Ali Derrick Njavwa Simwinga as Electoral Commission of Zambia Commissioner.
“To Mrs. Nhekairo and Mr. Simwinga, I have known you as colleagues at the Zambian bar and you excelled in the roles you were given. I am confident that you will not fail the people of Zambia. I understand that your job is very challenging but you are equal to the task” the Head of State said.
The Head of State urged the ECZ to work closely with Government Printers to ensure that capacity is built in order to ensure credible, free and fair elections in the 2021 elections and more to come.
“My government will not hesitate to put in the required resources to succeed in this matter which will result into a huge saving and give an opportunity for local stakeholders to vividly see that there is no interference in the electoral process,” he ended.
