Health authorities in Kalomo district of Southern province have a confirmed a case of Covid-19. Byta FM understands that the development came to light during a stakeholders meeting today.
The case is reported from Kalomo’s highly populated Mawaya Compound and the patient has since gone into self-isolation with his family.
Meanwhile, district health authorities have advised the community to observe stipulated health guidelines to prevent the spread of the disease following the pronouncement of Covid 19 case.
And Kalomo District Commissioner, Brenda Mwenda has called on all stakeholders to work with the local and health authorities to adhere to high level of hygiene practices, social distancing and wearing of masks.The district Covid-19 task force has since stepped a surveillance and health promotion campaigns in the wake of the first Covid-19 case in the area.
Zambia’s Covid-19 infections have sharply increased over a few weeks with 213 new cases today pushing the total to 6, 793 in close to six months since the first outbreak. The death toll stands 173, with 55 of the total classified as direct Covid-19 fatalities.
Meanwhile, 114 are Covid-19 associated deaths due to underlying conditions, while 4 are not yet classified.
