United Party for National Development (UPND) vice President Mutale Nalumango says exorbitant prices of nomination fees by the Electoral Comission of Zambia(ECZ) and violence are conduits preventing women from participating in politics.
And Mrs Nalumango says a woman is a great contributor to leadership and development in any given country.
She encouraged women to demand space of revelance in that regard.
The UPND Vice-President made these observation during the commeration of today’s Women International Day at the party’s Secretariat in Lusaka.
The event attracted women from the seven Constituencies and joined by women from the alliance partner NDC.
The UPND Vice-President further says the current situation in the country is difficult for women to attain fifty percent women representation in key decision position, citing persecution among women in the party.
She implored women movements in the country to help create a suitable environment for women to participate in politics.
And Mrs Nalumango says in a bid for UPND to increase women participation in politics, will deal against brutality against women.
This year’s Women International Day is celebrated under the theme “Women in leadership; Achieving an equal future in the Covid-19 World.
the Speaking earlier at the same function, Lusaka Province Chair Lady Rosa Zulu commended the Vice President for taking challenge on a clean path thus inspiring change.
And the NDC Lusaka Province Chairlady Maureen Sense appealed to UPND Vice-President Mutale Nalumango to assist by being in the forefront to bring unity and change among women in the country.
She further assured the gathering of support and work towards bringing change to Zambia with all the structures of the NDC in Lusaka District.
