Higher Education Loans Students Board (HELSB) has recovered a total of 20. 4 million Kwacha in the first quarter of 2021 from students’ loan pay backs.

HELSB Chief Executive Officer Ireen Chirwa says 6, 391 students are paying through the government payroll while four thousand, one hundred are paying back through individual’s payroll system.

Mrs. Chirwa has also revealed that 80 beneficiaries have since died and their loans have since been declared bad loans as they were not insured.

She says the accumulative total number of money paid back from 2018 to 31st March 2021 stands at 115.6 million Kwacha.

Mrs. Chirwa says the number of students supported HELSB has increased with a total of 20, 665 at public universities including the University of Zambia and Copperbelt University.
