OYV Wants A Progressive Budget http://tumfweko.com/2019/09/26/oyv-wants-a-progressive-budget/ http://tumfweko.com/2019/09/26/oyv-wants-a-progressive-budget/#respond Thu, 26 Sep 2019 15:34:49 +0000 http://tumfweko.com/?p=80704

By Tetiwe Mweemba

As the nation awaits the official presentation of the 2020 National Budget by Finance Minister Bwalya Ng’andu in Lusaka tomorrow amidst the high cost of living, Power outages and suffering intense effects of Climate Change, the Operation Young Vote OYV says the country is expectant of a user friendly budget which should accommodate all and be supported by all.

Speaking in Lusaka today, OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda said the budget must provide clear indicators, measures and investment in having duty bearers working closely with the citizens in finding solutions to problems that confront the country.

Mr. Nyirenda said the budget must clearly show an interest in the fight against corruption but incentivizing the whistle blowers and also providing better allocations to the institutions of governance.

“The budget, while it endeavor to address issues raised about the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Development for a Better Zambia Amidst the impact of Climate Change” in the state of nation address by President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, it must be reflective of the day to day social economic challenges, poverty as well as hunger situations citizens are currently in,” Mr. Nyirenda noted.

He added that OYV expected a budget that provided for speedy, manageable and consistent development in the face of climate Change and its impact.

“It would be wishful thinking if you have a budget that is not alive to the poverty and hunger that is ravaging the majority of households in the country. The hunger in the country is real, how then does the 2020 budget resolve the widespread hunger while encouraging and motivating the hungry population to venture into agriculture in a diversified sense not only for food security but also for good nutrition and health food, “he added.

Mr. Nyirenda said OYV is expectant to see how the budget will float practical ways of tackling the reality of climate change.

He added that the policy of purchasing of furniture and other school and office material and equipment from the youth enterprises and cooperatives must not be rhetoric and a myth but be actualized in the budgetary indicators to be given by the Minister of Finance.

“On mining and tourism, OYV expects the budget to allude to and pay particular attention to the targeted review of the APRM in the two sectors that Zambia will be embarking on with the collaboration of the continental APRM Secretariat between the end of this year into 2020, so as to shape a progressive trajectory and embrace ways of harnessing dividends,” Mr. Nyirenda stressed.

Exempt Hospitals from Loadsheding, Govt Told http://tumfweko.com/2019/09/26/exempt-hospitals-from-loadsheding-govt-told/ http://tumfweko.com/2019/09/26/exempt-hospitals-from-loadsheding-govt-told/#respond Thu, 26 Sep 2019 12:24:18 +0000 http://tumfweko.com/?p=80701 Chipata District Hospital has called on government to engage Zesco Limited to consider exempting hospitals from the ongoing load shedding exercise.

Speaking when Chipata Central Member of Parliament Moses Mawere visited the hospital, some members of staff explained that currently the hospital is also experiencing load shedding.
They added that this also leads to unavailability of water as the hospital is only able to pump water using electricity.

And Chipata District Hospital Administrator Noah Banda noted that despite the hospital being new, it has challenges with transport as it only has one ambulance which is not in good shape, making it difficult for health workers to carry out their duties effectively.

He notes that the hospital is also having challenges with hospital equipment such as the extra software machine, and dental equipment.

Meanwhile Chipata Central Member of Parliament Moses Mawere assured the hospital management that he will personally engage the minister of health to find out why the hospital despite being new has challenges with equipment.
The MP who was visiting the hospital to understand the challenges it is facing, further promised to engage management at ZESCO to exempt hospitals and other health facilities from loadsheding.

On September 13, during the presidential address to the nation, President Edgar Lungu directed the power utility company to exempt health facilities from load shedding.

Chinese Abusing Zambians At Topstar http://tumfweko.com/2019/09/26/chinese-abusing-zambians-at-topstar/ http://tumfweko.com/2019/09/26/chinese-abusing-zambians-at-topstar/#respond Thu, 26 Sep 2019 06:33:36 +0000 http://tumfweko.com/?p=80686 Dear editor ,
We would like to air our displeasure on the individual mentioned above . The named person has a very bad and abusive language toward us Zambian workers he works with, whether in the office or in the field .We seek government intervention on the brutality and slavery minded of Mr sword Li .
All we are asking for, is for this Chinese goon called Sword Li to be sent back to china because he has proved to be one of the most useless Chinese man we have worked with without courtesy and respect for this government and the Zambian workers who fall under his department .If anything even fellow Chinese don’t like him especially those who have worked under him before. He is such a ruthless, evil and deceitful man!!! All employee who work under him ,work with fear and he has even reached level where he want to start beating us so his reaction shows ,Before he beats one which will also retaliate can we have the government intervention. This is the man who wants all workers under him to be worshiping him. How can we have another god in the name of Mr sword Li?
Most good and performing employees who worked under him have since either resigned or just stopped coming for work because of frustrations .We have had three managers, three supervisors and some technical Zambian guys who he fired them. You can investigate to prove these facts! As if this is not enough, the employees’ under his department are the least paid and motivated workers. When we are out in the field with him he is such a cruel man, ever scorning on “WECHAT” to those left at the office. This is the man who stole money for the village project and nothing was done to him. We visited villages with him in the pretext that he was working and yet not. He has made so many deals which later we shall reveal as the team is gathering more data…..
How can we have such kind of a heartless, unprofessional, deceitful and evil man in such a department? This is uncalled for as we can’t have a man who managers Aftersales and call center which we the Zambian can do even better!! Zambia has enough professional individual who can work better than him.
