IT IS good to be recognised in your country while you are still alive, says Vernon Mwaanga.Commenting on the Copperbelt University senate’s decision to confer him with a honourary doctorate degree for his contribution to peace building and conflict resolution in Africa on Thursday, Mwaanga said it was a great honour to be recognised.
Zambeef co-founder and current director for strategy and development Carl Irwin and former Namibian president Sam Nujoma are also scheduled to receive honourary doctorates this week.
“I have devoted more than 50 years of my life to peace building and conflict resolution in Zambia and Africa and the world. I have fought for freedom, peace and justice for humanity everywhere and done so in a non-confrontational manner. I have striven hard to build bridges and create human understanding,” Mwaanga said.
“I am immensely humbled that Copperbelt University has recognised my contribution by honouring me with an honourary doctorate degree.”
Mwaanga said he owed the achievement to his family, friends and Zambians.
“I have passionately given my best to my country and to Africa and it is a matter of great joy and satisfaction that I am being recognised in my lifetime. I hope this inspires the young men and women of Zambia to learn the skill of non-confrontation and only work tirelessly to build a better country and aspire to reach higher heights.”
Copperbelt University registrar Allan Illunga said in an interview that the conferring ceremony would be held during the university’s 24th Graduation Ceremony which takes place on Thursday and Friday where about 1,400 students would be graduating.
“Mr Mwaanga will be honoured based on his contribution towards peace building and also diplomacy, while for the former president of Namibia Mr Sam Nujoma, for his contribution to the liberation struggle of Namibia,” Illunga said.
“They are all honourary doctorates. Mr Nujoma is not yet in the country but we are expecting him on the 24th of July,” he said.
And Irwin confirmed CBU’s decision to honour him with a honourary doctorate in entrepreneurship and business.
“It will be an honour but again they have not conferred yet, so I will be glad to comment if it’s officially conferred,” said Irwin. ]]>

Some times I am forced to think that all Zambian women are the same but I must say that I have met and worked with great Zambian women who respect their culture and respect their marriages and husbands.

The most annoying thing of all is that she allows her best female friends to sleep or have a nap on our matrimonial bed when I am at work some times even when I am around but doing research work in the other room.
On several occasions I have found her friends busy sleeping on our matrimonial bed and when I entered one day, this woman never bothered to move out of the bed and I left the bed for her and I could not rest after a hard day.
I have discussed this matter with her but she says her friend is like her relative and that they have been childhood friends for over 20 years. She says this is modern world and that I should get used with it.
People What is my wife up to, where I come from it is not allowed to allow your friend to sleep on the matrimonial bed.
I have one child with her, aged three years. I must say that my wife has bad manners, I have tried to make her very happy, buy her everything which she needs including expensive cars and clothes, the Brazilian hair, I love this woman but I don’t know why she is behaving like this.
Some times I cook for myself while she is sleeping or watching movies with her friends and drinking beer even in my bedroom.
Imagine five women sitting on the bed drinking beer like men and when I enter the main bedroom, my wife is not even moved that her husband has entered the house and the bedroom while her friends are busy drinking.
I am sponsoring her relatives to schools including universities. I have never cheated on any woman. During courtship my wife pretended to by an angel, she was a Mrs. ‘Perfect’ but this has changed, I have involved her family but nothing has changed, when I come with my work mates or visitors from my country the behavior is the same, what can I do people.
