REPUBLICAN President Michael Sata has appointed Justice Dennis Chirwa as acting Chief Justice during the absence of Chief Justice Ernest Sakala.

Chief justice Ernest Sakala will be out of the country from 6 to 11 February 2012 and justice Chirwa is expected to act as chief justice from 7 to 10 February 2012

In a letter to justice Chirwa, President Sata indicated that his appointment is in line with the powers conferred upon him by Article 93 (3) of the Constitution.

The President has also appointed Justice Lombe Chibesakunda as acting deputy Chief Justice.

This is according to a press statement issued by special assistant to the president for press and public relations George Chellah.
