Message from FAZ General Secretary , George Kasengele who is in Equatorial Guinea West Africa :-
“The draws are known by now but here is some useful information.
The infrastructure here in Equatorial Guinea is all fairly new hence will not be an advantage to the hosts. We will be based in a town balled Bate which is not accessible by road but by air. It is a 30 minute flight to Bate from Malabo the capital city. This will of course create travel problems for our team of supporters and may work to our disadvantage.
The weather is not as humid as we usually experience in West Africa. It is raining this time of the year.
Being based in Equatorial Guinea means that we will be here up to the quarter final stage. These guys have used their petrol money in infrastructure which is mostly new.
With a population of only 1.3 million people the game of football is slowly becoming the people’s favorite past time. They have scored huge successes with women’s football on the continent than the men.
This mornings Sunday 10/30 meeting gave us a clear indication that the two LOC’s are working together to try and clarify the issue of using one visa to access either country. This Issue is still lingering despite assurances that this matter will be addressed in the next few weeks. This may derail the inspection of facilities set for tomorrow morning.
The other matter that became clear from this mornings meeting is that CAF and the two LOC’s want to preserve the grass in the four venues. Infact the playing surfaces here will only be ready in December. Each team will only be allowed 45 minutes training on the four venues before each match. The 45 minutes will begin to be counted immediately the first player enters the pitch. It is that bad.
We will have to contend with the language factor here in EG. Spanish is their first language with French coming in second. English is not even a distant third. To find people who you can converse with and get things done is as hard trying to bleed a stone.
The cost of living here is very high despite the petroleuros. Decent accommodation will cost an arm and leg.
They have little or no regard for the US dollar and would rather transact in Euros and the Cfh.
Just to get here will mean numerous stops and sleep overs and yet this is Central Africa.
Other than what has been highlighted this is a beautiful country with a lot to offer scenically and the people are very friendly.
We are expected to arrive at least three days before the first game and depart within 48 hours of elimination.
I will take the Team Coaches, Manager, Doctor and Physio through the various dos and donts of the tournament to avoid stiff penalties especially with regard to issues of marketing, doping, media etc.”

Well put Mr. Kasengele, as a lay man I have been given a picture of wat happens behind the scene. Never even new that there is a Spanish speaking country in West Africa which doesn’t even us the USD as a convertible currency. Plan well FAZ coz the hurdles highlighted by Mr. Kasengele are not insurmountable we are hungry for success we expect nothing less than victory at Afcon. Good luck Chipolopolo, H.R. & FAZ.
