EXPOSED : HH’s Tribalism, What Election Statistics Say

Hakainde Hichilema

This is a Careful Analysis of 2001 – 2011 Election Results and a letter sent to HH on 25th October 2011. By Maurice Makalu.

———————————————————————————————————————————————

Re: MR. HH, PLEASE STOP YOUR TRIBALISM.

The above matter refers.

The Post newspaper has in the recent past featured editorials condemning your “tribalistic and dangerous anti-Bemba politics.”

The Zambian Inquirer asked Mr. Cornelius Mweetwa, Deputy Spokesperson of UPND and Choma Constituency MP, to comment on these allegations.

Here is what he said, “The (tribalism) attacks (from The Post) are unfair as the regional support given to the UPND is not different from that received by other parties including the Patriotic Front (PF).” He continued that, “A careful analysis of election results has revealed that the major political parties have attracted a home vote associated with a leader of the party. Further since 2001, UPND has received least votes in Northern, Luapula; while Sata has received support from the regions associated with his tribe.”

I want to give you that ‘careful analysis of elections results.’ Because clearly, if Mr. Mweetwa has ever done any careful analysis, he cannot tell such lies in the media; unless if he just wants to deceive you and the Zambian people. Or perhaps he is acting under your instructions, which I believe not, to defend your tribalism even if it means lying to the Zambian people.

According to the careful analysis, Mr. HH, the facts are:

  1. The regional support given to the UPND is VERY DIFFERENT from that received by other parties from the region of their presidents.
  2. The support Sata has received from regions associated with his tribe is not abnormal such that you should compare and use it to defend your tribalism.
  3. Further from 2001, UPND has received least votes not just from Northern and Luapula, as if Bembas were tribalistic, but from other regions as well: Livingstone Constituency, Copperbelt, Lusaka and Eastern provinces. You have grown by just over 1% in Western, North western and Central combined.
  4. Your party has received 99% growing support only from areas with growing anti-Bemba sentiments. Is that a coincidence?

Let us begin the ‘careful analysis’ that proves the above facts. THE LINK TO THE FULL DOCUMENT:

Whether we like it or not, the three top leaders gannered massive support from where the hail from. This timne around the presidency is with Northern and whatever they do with it will determine their future role in leadership at the highest level. Kaondes, Luvales, Lundas, Lozis and Tongas have not yet produced a president. Currently, it is only HH who has been in the presiential race since 2006, so it might not be a bad idea to also try Tongas, that is if Sata lets us down.

The truth of the matter is that, when Mazoka died UPND went tribal. Unless some of you have short memory. Why did Sakwiba Sikota and others pulled out of UPND? The answer at that time was that UPND was for Tongas hence was supposed to be led by Tonga. Take note, no Ila was mentioned despite being part of Southern Province. Please, Northern and Luapula Provinces are not for Bembas only. Bembas are found in Chinsali, Mpika, Kasama and part of Mpulungu. Otherwise other tribes are the Namwanga, Mambwe, Bisa, Lunda, Ushi, Ngumbo,Malungu,Tabwa and others. The only thing is that, people in these two provinces are civilised if not united and intermarry easily. Their civilisation has even affected Copperbelt, Central and Lusaka provinces. Remember Chiluba was Lunda from Luapula Province. Sata is Bemba from Mpika. Therefore Mweetwa lied with his analysis. Research before exposing your ignorance otherwise this is simple grade Seven Social Studies of Zambia. Who is practising politics of tribalism?

Champi, go back to school. Bembas are very few in sata’s cabinet. Please let us differentiate areas from tribes. If a person comes from copperbelt and speaks bemba does not mean he is bemba. Please, avoid ignorance where you even relate every name to bemba. For instance “Musonda” is name that can be found in luapula, Central, Northern, Copperbelt and North-Western Province. Therefore, its wrong to associate the name Musonda to bembas Just because Musonda who is appointed by the President is speaking bemba.

Dont insult Tongas because of your hatred of them. Bembas and their Kolwestan mentality are the worst tribalists. Some of us know of institutions full of Bembas, and one clear example is the cabinet – full of Bembas, and you claim Tongas are tribalists. Makalu is just one of those Monkeystan tribalists who wants to mess up HH and Tongas. Makalu, can you honestly say the current appointments do not smack of tribalism? You are dead scared, along with you fellow Monkeystani, Fraud Mmembe, of the possibility of being rule by a Tonga, so you have to bring down any Tonga leader. This lie about Mazoka won’t fry; he too was accused of being a tribalist, but now that he is dead the same mouths that said he was a tribalist are saying he was not, it is HH who is a tribalist. And poor daft Fraud Mmembe – first he was saying HH it pro-Tonga, now he is even accusing him of being anti-Bemba. Makalu, what problem do you have with Tongas? You are probably one of those chaps who was intellectual capacity cannot match that of some Tonga competitor somewhere, so you want to attack them for no proper reason. Why should you waste your ammunition on HH being tribalistic when there is enough evidence to show Sata is a tribalist from his appointments?

The truth is that no Tonga or Lozi will ever rule this country, period. These two tribes have been branded tribalists by tribes that are infact practicing tribalism and Bemba is one of them. Where as a Lozi can be as flexible as to learn several Zambian nd foreign languages, a Bemba will die with only two or one. If u are to speak a language other than bemba in bemba dominated towns, they’ll look at u in surprise nd say ‘alelanda ichitundu..’ yet no wud be surprised if someone used bemba in Western Province where Lozi is a major comm media. Like it or not, believe it or not, Bembas r the greatest nd silent tribalists.

Why do tongas think presidency is their portion just because they v neva ruled b4? To all upnd cadres, dont paint upnd as a party wit support from all tongas, there sane tongas who knw dat the path being taken by hh is a dangerous one n have refused to be part of hh n clique!

It’ll be very difficult for these two tribes to make a president, for as long as they will remain regional. HH should be removed from UPND presidency, or LETS GO CHIPIMO & NAREP, LETS GO 2016!

    FACTS:
    1. Sata got better votes in SP ( ~ 24,000) than he did in WP & NWP while HH got very small # of votes in Luapula & NP (~ 1000) even smaller than rejected/wasted votes. Don’t argue check facts/ results.

    2. Sata’s cabinet has no appointments from NWP, SP, WP ( except Inonge). The cabinet is dominated by Bembas (or bemba speaking people).

    3. In response to the article, I will tell you that Ila people of SP speak ila & is unlike tribes in Luapula & NP who speak bemba. Ushis speak bemba, Lundas of mwata kazembe speak bemba, etc. So why do you make absurd comparisons.

    4. Tribalism is brewed by tribalism. Some Tongas have become tribal because of the insistence by others ( especially Bembas) that a Tonga must not rule. This has not been accepted by Tongas considering the fact that most Tongas are the elite & most bembas are just street vendors with little or no education.

Now from the above, tell me who is more tribal.

    • musonda Reply

      November 2, 2011 at 8:40 pm

The assumption that higher or lower votes in a particular area is evidence of tribalism is absurd. It maybe a strong indicator of tribalism if you are determined to be biased against all other reasons that people vote for a particular candidate and instead insist votes were cast from a purely tribalist perspective which is what you seem to be arguing. if so you and Makalu ( whom you condemn) are exactly the same only on opposing sides of the pond.

You must re-examine the cabinet because your statement is grossly innacurate. Tribalism is indeed brewed by tribalism it starts with an individual that makes a choice to be prejudiced against others because of their own prejudiced beliefs about another ethnic group. They then proceed to spread the hate, formulating fake facts to back their hate filled propaganda, no different from organized racsist groups. You do not become tribalist because a Bemba or Tonga made you that way, you choose to be tribalist and justify it by transfering blame from yourself to those you dislike. From “the above” the conclusion drawn is not that Bembas or Tongas are more tribalist than the other It’s simply you who is tribalist and would like to sway the masses to follow your “facts”. Those aren’t facts those are your personal opinions that u are clothing with the “fact jacket” to make them seem believable.
“Tongas are elite” “Bembas are street vendors” tongas have become tribal because of “other tribes” especially Bembas” you’re like a contemporary ethnocentric Hitler. you glorify your own tribe like hitler did germans you then single out “the others” much like hitler did the Jews and any non “pure” caucasian and then transfer blame for all your problems to the “other group” all we need is 100 more people with your mentality and a violent streak and we could have genocide. You seem like a smart person, so you should know that when you are attacked by tribalists don’t give them a platform to further their rubbish by reacting in the same manner that they would, there’s no need to stoop that low.

He has however appointed the likes of Matongo whom HH disowned because he is ‘old’. We will see who will ‘foti, for him.
