THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has warned Zambians against falling prey to internet fraudsters asking them to send vital personal documents and information.
DEC acting public relations officer Samuel Silomba said in a statement yesterday that internet fraud had become rampant and that people needed to guard against it.
Mr Silomba was reacting to revelations in investigations concerning a Nigerian who was on death row for drug trafficking while using a Zambian passport.
He said further investigations had revealed that the passport was regularly issued by Zambian Authorities to Emmanuel Kasanda, a Zambian footballer.
“It has been established that the Nigerian national did not fraudulently, obtain the Zambian passport from the Department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship.
“Rather, the Nigerian national duped Emmanuel Kasanda, a footballer, through a well organised internet fraud,” he said.
Mr Silomba said the Nigerian had purported to be an executive director of a football academy in Malaysia and lured Mr Kasanda into voluntarily sending his passport and a US$260 as commitment fee an air ticket for him.
He said it was only after news of the Nigerian’s arrest was announced that Mr Kasanda realised he had been cheated.

Zambians, open up your eyes and dont fall prey to thieves… how can someone wanting to sponsor you, ask you to send him money as commitment fee and you go ahead and send? how can you send a physical passport to someone you dont know? Please guys woke up and do the right thing, otherwise you will end yourself in a scanddle that you will even fail to explain not being part of it, you still convicted due to the fact that your documents were used and none to prove that it was not actually you. Secure your Documents and your vital information….

Cheese boy, remember that fraud evolves just like a chess game. It has different levels. I have ever witnessed a Nigerian graduate being duped. Would you still maintain your stance that he was/is dull taking into account how clever a Nigerian can be?
The answer is no. Fraud is like a game. There is always one person who is ahead of the other in thoughts. For instance, which unemployed monk would reject a proposal from a purported single woman working for an International Recruitment Centre but looking for Love from a stranded monk from the ruins?
This is how they introduce themselves as women. After you have shared a number of emails, you the culprit would become careless and start telling them your name, age and place of birth. This data can be used to obtain an NRC and eventually a passport.

Also our greed comes into effect: If someone send u a text that u have won a Prado in Kenya, when u have NOT entered into any competition, how do u get excited about that and start sending yo details and cash to such pipo? When dullness meets greed, it’s early Christmas for crooks. Ignore texts and emails that make you feel u can win something u have not competed for.

Ignorance is at play here, nothing else. As Zambian we are very good at pretending to be professors of various disciplines and speak with such ridiculous pomp! Zambians, this is the computer era. An early education on computers and the Internet is pivotal to the avoidance of such scams. The Internet is a boundless community. Therefore it is open to all forms of trickery across miles and miles of land and sea. Be smart, learn by reading about it. What would be the Internet without google! I bet some of you don’t even know what google is! To those who may feel insulted,be positive and teach yourself or learn from qualified and experienced practitioners like me lol. I can never be cheated over the Internet, over my dead body.

DEC, you are useless and need to be checked thoroughly. By issuing warning against Internet fraudsters, you are simply trying to defend yourself and trying to win the president’s buy in so you can secure your jobs. Your worthless utterances are simply not enough!!!As DEC, with such reported issues, you ought by now to have built a web site for the Zambians to access and learn about such issues. You only need an information portal to sensitize and educate people about how evade such possible occurrences. Where is your website? What are you doing to educate the general populace of Zambia to mitigate such reported occurrences of Internet fraudsters in Zambia? Can you even tell the difference between a possible phishing attack and an authentic online identity information request? Are your so-called cyber security officers certified officers by internationals standards? If I had to say more, it would probably be insults…I rest my case…

Iyo mwamuseka, I don’t rmbr anyone at the NRC and Passport office educating me on how to handle my docs, shouldn’t it start from there? The truth is, anyone can get conned. Some men and women have even been conned into marriage by fellow Zambians, today they are not sure what happened. Some pipo pretend to be your friends all bcz u have something the don’t have, some Zambians pretend to be traders and they don’t even mind sleeping in Cells once every often, some pipo have sent a lot of others to the grave by their evil and selfish deeds, all this is not thru internet or dullness or even Nigerians. Evil is among us Zambians.
