President Michael Sata has questioned the motive behind certain people demanding for inclusion of Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia on the committee of experts tasked to draw a new constitution of Zambia.
President Sata said he has appointed several Bishops most of them born again Christians to seat on the committee.
He said this at state house today during swearing ceremony for Justice permanent secretary, Patricia Daka Jere and Francis Kamanga for ministry of works and supply.
Mr Sata also noted that it is very difficult to balance appointments of people based on tribe.
He said the appointments of Mr Kamanga and Mrs Jere both from the Eastern Province are on merit.
He questioned why some people complain about his appointment being tribal when some sections of society such as the disabled have not complained.
The president also tasked Mrs Jere is a disabled lawyer to draft legislation to regulate internet journalism.
Mr Sata also told Mr Kamanga to put an end to the corruption at the road development agency.
He told Mr Kamanga to go country wide to monitor road construction projects and not leave to RDA.
Mr Sata also directed Mr Kamanga to upgrade all aerodrams in the country.

Many a time have they been vindicated by the unfolding National event. Including the fight against abuses like MMD’s third time advocacy when some of the bretherns were dining and sharing the spoils with the govnts that might be. Let’s not just criticise for the sake of scoring cheap mileage. Prof Pat Mvunga is a Constitutional heavyweight and so is Mwangala Zaloumis. There aren’t any better than these two that I know can interpret Constitutional like they know how. In them 2 alone they can collect all the past submissions and give us a Constitution that can stand the test of time. The only controversial appointments on this list are the 3 Catholic Priests; but then the Catholics have been known for championing basic human rights and standing with the poor and down-trodden in our society. How I wished the late Bishop Paul Duffy was on this team.
What I’m worried about the most is what Sata will do with the draft Constitution they will submit to him. In my opinion the draft should have just gone directly to parliament for debate and subsequently enactment. We have seen each and every President start with good intentions, only to water down the good report by removing stuff perceived to threaten their stranglehold to power.
As for those whingeing about lack of enough representation, I thought this wasn’t supposed to be a Constituent Assembly, but rather a team of ‘experts’ (whatever that means). There is a better way you can contribute besides being on the team: MAKE SUBMISSIONS TO THE TEAM when it starts sitting!
As for those calling for consulation, I believe Sata has appointed these people to do the ‘CONSULTATION’ on his behalf. Your time to be consulted will come when the representatives go round and collect people opinions. Please stop this cry baby attitude. I know the majority just wanted to be part of it so they can get paid… not so fast this time!
Its seems there is a problem in most tribes within our nation. Understand that not everyone could be put on that commission. Have a love for the nation and save your selfish interests for yourselves. The government is striving to save money and allocate that saved money to areas that require urgent attention like agriculture, health, education, environment and to create a conducive environment worth for job creation and empowerment. Imagine if everyone, every tribe or religion were to be included in the constitutione making commission. By, the way, some people included are those individuals we never thought could be part of that panel. Its not about tribe or which individual. Its about which credible persons are credible enough. Actually a very good constitution should include all homosexuals and gays.People this is reality.A constitution is purely a human document.Its not written by God or Jesus NO! Why do Christian bodies feel entitled to representation in constitution forming? Musicians would also want such representation. They work under the basic tenet of freedom of speech! Traditional healers also want to be party to forming a constitution. If we were serious Africans Chiefs would have had large representation Atheists also need representation cos the constitution doesn’t protect them as at now.
Philosopher I don’t support homosexuality but your arguments are very sound. The churches want the constitution to evangelise for them. In other words they would like to take us back to the Theocracies of Rome and Shariah A constitution should address national interests as broadly as possible and not straitjacket citizens to some people’s belief of God.

please don’t narrow the constitution to gay wrongs. the issue of gay is a non starter. So look wide. the constitution is about the powers of the president. We need to reduce them drastically. We will avoid the president to be the chief employment offer appointing almost every position! The contentious issues need to be addressed positively in the constitution.so keep your eye open. This is not a representation of all groupings. Its just a committee of few experts to finalise the constitution. Its not like the NCC where there was a big representation. Please lets be reasonable and not create problems where there are no problems. As for EFZ, they sat on the NCC and now they want to sit even on this one. They have already submitted so whats their problem. Its not even a representation of all tribes in Zambia
Otherwise it will become another NCC. But thats not the point. We want a small effective group to quickly work on this. Besides it will be taken to the refurendum so you have nothing to fear

anyway most of our Pastors under EFZ are not disciplined esp as regards finances, they did not keep their integrity in this regard and they did prostiute with MMD big time on most cases. may be thats why sata has left them in the called.EFZ as a mother body of most of these wayward pastors who condemned the PF and sata did nothing to regulate or discipline these mercenaries in the church but tolerated them. so they have gotten what they deserve. i just hope the CCZ will represent the interest of the EFZ since the differences are so few as compared to ZEC. but what i just dont like is appointing three catholic bishops and leaving out EFZ completely though they did not support sata most of them though I know a lot of Evangelical pastoprs who campaigned for change. may be the president can relook this matter for the sake of straight evangelicals who seriously campigned for change.
