UPND Tells Off SATA “He Is Behaving Like King David, UPND MP’s Are NOT For POACHING”

UPND Cadres

OPPOSITION UPND will not allow its Members of Parliament (MPs) to be included in President Michael Sata’s government.
UPND national Secretary Winston Chibwe said allowing MPs from the opposition to accept cabinet positions from President Michael Sata would weaken both the democratic principals of the nation and the effective systems of offering checks and balances to government.
And Mr. Chibwe says the constitution committee of expert set up by President Sata is still illegal because there was no law backing its existence. In an interview, Mr. Chibwe said it was important for the people of Zambia to benefit from quality leadership with a meaningful developmental plan without any duress exerted to those executing the system.“The most important thing about working together you don’t go and pick individuals you have to consult form the other party, you negotiate with the sponsor of the people you want to include in your government, not to just pick individuals like the way the PF government is doing.”Mr. Chibwe said its members belonged to an institution which had a different ideology on governance and the rule of law.He said UPND would not be auctioned to the ruling PF for the sake of jobs in government.
“These Members of Parliament do not belong to themselves, they belong to the institution and that institution has a major role to play. It is only the UPND which has the authority to give them a person to work with not them picking,” Mr. Chibwe. He said UPND had not been approached because from its inception it had made its position known for parties that wanted to work with it.Mr. Chibwe said President Sata was behaving like King David in the ancient days in the Bible in 2 Samuel Chapter 12 where he took people from other tribes leaving his own because they were incapable.“President Sata doesn’t have people to work with in the PF because of their low calibre; he doesn’t have people who are prepared to run government with him, people who helped him win an election are complaining, the issue of more money in the pocket is not yet attainable, people among them youths are still unemployed as he has failed to create any single job.”He said people who had helped President Sata win the election were slowly running away from him because were not considered for any jobs. And Mr. Chibwe insisted that President Sata’s committee of expert on the constitution was still illegal because it was not backed by the law.He said the committee was not of experts but a group of people assigned to deliver Sata constitution.“The composition that has been constituted by Mr. Sata falls short of inclusiveness and it will not deliver what is expected of the people of Zambia, he has come out to say that he is balancing up brains not regions or tribes but you should know that there are things which are sensitive with regards to the constitutional making process,” he said.id there was no way President Sata would insult the people of Zambia over suggesting that he would only work with people with brains. The Oasis Forum a body comprising of the Law Association of Zambia, Zambia Episcope Conference, Christian Council of Zambia, The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia and the Non Governmental Coordinating Council have expressed concern in the manner the committee of experts has been tailored.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH RECOGNISING EACH OTHER? It’s correct in the principle of inclusiveness for the President to appoint opposition MP’s into cabinet, but what’s wrong with him consulting their parties first? He can proceed to appoint them without their party’s consent in instances where the party fails to co-operate, but the candidate accepts the appointment. But the way he’s doing it is like bullying them, really…

If upnd has principled and learned poeple, why didn’t they win the elections then? Baseless claims ,that have no effect on zambian politics. It’s because of your arrogance, is the reason why you can’t win an election on your own. By 2016 upnd will only be a handful of people.Remember there are other parties with young and vibrant educated people than the ones you have.It will be very tough for upnd, unless you change your barbaric atitude.

The problem with UPND is their self -praise. If u are educated, why cant u make a gud analysis of the voting pattern? U also wrongly think that there are more educated pipo in upnd (tongas) than the rest of zambia. Why do the uneducated win the election with that big margin as compared to yo results. What wud u have done to the constitution looking at the fact that it had even reached parliament? I voted 4 PF becoz of mo money in yo poket slogan.and this cud not come within 90 days bcoz increment is efectd ths year with 2m tax free.is ths not mo money in my pocket?the eductd upnd u cant see ths, what kind of education are boasting about.carry a survey and see if yo unnecesary criticism is making popular or not. The solution to this problem is a good constitution which should deter selfish politicians from crossing over.I t should be spelt out that any MP who would resign should not recontest the seat for a minimum of five years. Secondly, the party that expels a sitting MP should not adopt any candidate for that particular seat. Thirdly, a party that has lost a seat through death of a sitting MP should be allowed to float a candidate to take over if General Elections are less than nine months away, except for the indipendent MP.

Hate them or love them, they have a point. Whaat’s happening will kill the democracy of checks and balances that our country so badly needs after the abuse experienced under the MMD government. This appointing of opposition MPs doesn’t happen in advanced democracies. What’s even double standard about this is that PF expelled the so called ‘rebel MPs’ when they were in the opposition and these guys accepted jobs from the late Levy Mwanawasa. You see what goes round, comes around!

We need a strong parliament that can provide proper checks and balances. If the PF wants to ‘work’ with the opposition, they should work with them in parliament while they are in the opposition. I think we need a law which is going to outlaw this cheap trend.

Ba UPND, you are the same people accusing HEMCS of being a tribalist, if your members are as principled as you say they are there’s nothing to fear, in fact they will even be in a better position to offer checks and balances seeing that they will now be part of the system.

This is actually a good opportunity for your members to show the country what you bring to the table through your style of leadership.

Tell me, did MMD approach you before they poached Liato or even the late Tetamashimba?

@ Jigga, PF expelled the rebels for participating in the making of a sham constitution which was not in the interest of the people.

  19. Democratic systems should allow a strong base for different views to facilitate a critical analysis of any plan before it is implemented. A strong base is the men & women who were chosen as MPs from bothruling & parties which did not form the gov’t.

Mr Jigga be informed that the constitution of Zambia allows the president to appoint Ministers from among the members of parliament, it does not say consult before appointing them. Its up to the mp to either consult his/her party or his/her inner demons before taking up the appointment. And by the way, what checks and balances were offered by UPND in the prevoius parliament apart from supporting MMD and opposing everything that PF brought on the floor? UPND supported MMD at NCC and even voted for the NCC bill in parliament and only changed their mind in the second round after realizing that the clause of running mate promised to them by George Kunda had been referred to a referendum. Another thing that ba JIGGA should know is that MPS and Zambians at at large had set conditions for attending NCC and when the mps did the opposite they were expelled on account of betraying the pipo and no necessarily the PF as a party. And lastly, the less educated PF could tell that NCC was doomed whilst, the most wise, educated and skilled leaders of UPND could not see the same coming. And i put it to you Mr Jigga that when elections come, who do u vote for? Is it the educated and visionless or less educated with a vision? And how come the wisdom of UPND is only visible to pipo in ONE province out of TEN? Are the all the nine provinces tribal? Read between the lines and you may find that pipo sometimes mistake foolishness for wisdom…….

This is the right time to include a clause in our constitution to curb the worse of our resources to prevent politicl ‘prostitution’ some elected Mps who resign and opt to be re-elcted using the ticket of the ruling party. You have the right of association but not to the extent of abusing public resources. When elected remain in parliament unless withdrwan by the electorates. Don’t enter parliament always with the hope of being a minister, IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAMMES THE PEOPLE WHO ELECTED YOU NEED .

Believe me you all got points lets just consistently remove the names of tribes so that only one name “Zambian” can be heard. From all the tribes there are good and bad people, educated and uneducated people etc one a person is right we should not look at the tribe to confirm that you can be any tribe and be right or wrong in your contribution @fwaka lets not take things personal with too much hate in your words. We are all Zambians lets just mention areas where we feel the govt is erring and propose correctional measures. UPND was formed in order to form gvt and serve the Zambian people. What wrong does it make if a capable mp is appointed to serve the people in pf gvt?Is he/she serving the pf party or working for the people. My appeal to the mps is that do not fear to work if you are given the opportunity to do so cos you are there in parliament to serve the people you represent, if you are in decision making you can even perform better.

I think Mr Chibwe needs to start by asking what these UPND MPs are doing in Parliament. If it’s service to the people then give them space to serve. A principled person serves better when put in the system than from outside. Good governance starts with good policies, which are made in-house. Correct me if am wrong.

In Zambia, we have a problem of Leadership. This UPND Secreatry General is very dull. The constitution allows for the President to pick from within the Members of Parliament in the House. Then second, the people are complaining that SATA is being tribal by leaving out certain regions in his appointments. Now that he has tried to do a balancing act you call him “King David”. Thats not being fair. He is the president for all Zamnbians as such its only fair that he appoints all Zambians regardless of their political affiliation. In Zambia consultations are too retrogressive and some people are just bent on frustrating others. Sometimes if you have to succeeed you have bypass some of these forces of inertia. Just imagne if he restricted himself to PF, there would have been 95% cabinet from Luapula, Northern, CB and Lusaka. The same UPND would have stood on the platform and cried the loudest. What is getting at UPND is the lack of maturity of having refused to be in the PACT with PF. The fact they dumped PF when its was all clear that PF and the pact were going to form the next government has been haunting them.
