President Michael Sata has relieved Inspector General of Police Martin Malama and Zambia Security Intelligence Services Director General Regis Phiri of their duties.
President Sata has since appointed Martin Mwanambale as Director-General of the Zambia Security Intelligence Services (ZSIS) and Stella Libongani as Inspector-General of Police.
The Head of State has deployed the two ex-service chiefs into the Foreign Mission.
This development makes Ms. Libongani the first female Inspector General of Police in Zambia’s history.
The President expressed gratitude to Mr. Phiri and Dr Malama for their unflinching loyalty, hard work and dedication to him as Commander-in-Chief and the country in general during their distinguished service as heads of these relevant security wings.
And President Sata has further appointed Samuel Nkhoma and Peter Chingaipe as Deputy Director-General of the Zambia Security Intelligence Services and Deputy Inspector General of Police correspondingly.
The Head of State says he was confident that the two senior security officers will perform to his expectations and that of the Zambian people in general.
The changes are with immediate effect.

We expect DR Malama to be fired after he provided security to Nevers Mumba when PF cadres harrased him.
Phiri it was just a matter of time,it the same old MMD style.
Wake up people the honeymoon is over when will you see that the change you wanted is a dream? Wats the US$ rate, cooking oil price, etc. The family tree has now become the Province tree. If the Secretary to Cabinet was fired why was his Deputy and Chairperson to ECZ spared? Simple they both come from Luapuala

I find the relieving of Dr. Malama very suspicious and downright alarming.Kindly furnish the nation with the major reasons as to why he has to be relieved less than six months from the time he was appointed. This is also consistent with the re-assigning of kambwili when he seemed to be at the peak of his performance.Who is motivating these changes?Anybody has idea.?

Kambwili was hope for the people becoz he was the voice of the voiceless than Shamenda. Now it is Malama, someone just is too fast in doing things or it is comedy of error.

This in itself shows how security unconcious most of these our leaders are! Six months sure!!!! You promote an IG and then “FIRE” him – for what??????? Mr. President – we deserve to know why the man was fired. Remember he was a custodian of the Zambian people in that highest office of the Police Service – he knows alot already – and for Regis……..maaweeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

I urge all civil servants to decline any appointments from the president coz he is very unpredictable, let him learn to give chance to people to find there feet. We definitely are not angels and i can assure him, he wont find one. The people are working within the limitations of the system and firing them wont get him the results he is looking for, let him change the system that is why we want to change and trim the powers of the president through the constitution because we can not rely on the goodwill of an individual cause they eventually abuse that power as is the case

Congrats Stella,
I have confidence in you, as a woman lam sure you are going to make a difference in the Police Service. May you show police women officers how to dress. they are too dirt. you can not wear a uniform in high heeled shoe shame, you cannot put on long wigs in a uniform shame, pse we want to see some changes in these police officers.
May the Lord grant you the wisdom on how to go about it in your duties. Bless You!

there is nothing wrong in celebrating, there must be just another reason why the president fired the IG. i saw the Veep being escorted by the C5 guys at manda hill so what was wrong with that. Lets stop speculating and find out what the cause might be. “HIRE AND FIRE AT WILL” Kill by the sword you shall also die by the sword. come 2016…………

I wish there was a way of implementing the ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you’ at the highest office in the land without waiting for elections. The failure he is quickly identifying in others is what can be attributed to him who did not meet the 90 days.We can’t keep flip-flopping people, ministries, districts, provinces…this is not trail and error until we get the right match. Can someone go by what they planned for God’s sake?If at all they planned.Lekani ma jokes,ni chilo ichi ka

ZSIS DG and IG of ZP, both were fired due to failure to handle the crowds at the airport therefore putting at risk the lives of the VP, government ministers and the national team. The police should have handled the reception of the Chipolopolo et al better by using barbed face between the crowds and the aircraft. The numbers of people and potential risk should have been established by ZSIS and fed to chief cop to deploy Kamfisa unit at airport, along the road and at show grounds. That confusion that was caused by the excitement of winning the AFCON has cost these 2 gentlemen their jobs. Next time we are all celebrating just remember to behave decently and avoid being too excited and unreasonable to the point of losing some lives and now jobs! Just my observation.

The fact that this prez guy has hired, fired and reshuffled people at record speed for any new government says a lot about his abilities in the highest office in the land. He simply doesn’t know what he’s doing, neither does he have a plan! One would think that after ten years in oppossition he would have everything planned when he takes up office. But alas! All we are seeing and getting is appointment after apointment, firering after appointment, expensive comissions of enquiry, seemingly unnecessary provincial and district additions and restructuring and an annoying attempted anihalation of the previous government. When are we going to start seeing or at least HEARING about all those promises that made us vote for this seemingly bitter and obviously confused and unprepared party? 2015? Can we look and move ahead please!!! More money in our pockets, not more districts in our country! We can’t feed our families with such nonsense!

Not everything that glitters is gold. Always remember the advices of people who have lived before you and be able to learn from them. What people are seeing in Sata himself is a clear indication that things are wrong somewhere. He is now testing the sweet side of more power at his disposal by hiring and firing people anyhow. remember these fired or reshuffles have a negative bearing on peoples minds and hence reduced performance. You can fool the people sometimes but not always. there is more to sata and his motives. God is the greatest giver of that which is righ, many are the kings who’s crowns ended up being worn by men of no calibre in society.
Lastly bakateka, you have special advisors why not consult them before making such urgly changes, come 2016 PF will be a thing of the past.

SATA is very big fool and too old to make intelligent decisions,he’s well known 4speaking b4 thinking and always has someone to blame 4 something,u can even see 4 yourselves hw that he failed to deliver on he’s promises constantly blaming the previous government,he’s a dramatist who is hungry 4 praise, who when people stops appraising he sucks someone to appease hes audience, hes not doing any of these things 4 the interest of the nation but for hes own self esteem. Someone ill soon get another suck as soon as hes praise singers forget Malama &minds thier own business. He’s so angry of praise that he can even choose to use the girlfriends bus on national duties in order to ern himself an economical complement.
