Dear Editor,
I would like to pass my humble opinion on the speech by Robert Mugabe on his 88th birth anniversary, a speech that was critically condemned by some and appreciated by others. In his speech he calls some African leaders as “coward and sellouts”. Let me quotes some of his statements in his speech:
“Not only have they become cowards, but have become sellouts of our own people. Betraying, betraying the nations of Africa. That’s that AU thing. “They just think of money, money, money. Material things!
“If I speak against Britain and Britain is paying part of my budget, it is providing money I need for my hospitals, where shall I get this money?
“If I talk against France and I need French money to pay soldiers, to pay my civil servants, ah, where shall I get the money? That’s the consideration.
“You go and kneel before Sarkozy, you go and kneel before David Cameron, kneel before Obama and say yes we shall do all you want us to do.
“All these leaders, and when you are kneeling, you are making your nation kneel before these young imperialists.”
Guys, let us forget just for while what is happening in Zimbabwe and see sense in what uncle Bob is advocating here. This speech from my humble opinion has a very positive impact on Africa as a whole.
Africa like the man in the parable of the Good Samaritan has been attacked by “robbers”. They stripped the continents of its clothes, beat it and they have gone away, leaving it half dead. They have done it in cooperation with our own people especially with most of our heads of states. Africa is viewed by some as a victim to exploit.
Africa like this man is being avoided by “priests and Levites”, religious people. Unlike Mugabe some of us are cowered, we are afraid to stand voice up and act in the favor of our people and of our beautiful continent. We are silent when horrible things are happening to our people; we are silent when Africa is being torn apart by our imperialists.
In both our cowardice and self centeredness we are so concerned of what will happen to us if we are to stop and help the vulnerable people of our countries and of Africa at large. In the name of so called religiosity we avoid the involvement in national and continental issues. When commenting on this parable Martin Luther Jr. said “The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?” But… the Good Samaritan reversed the question: “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”
So dear fellow Africans, may we reverse the question: “if we don’t stop to help this continent what will happen to it? If we don’t stop, confront and address in a non violent way the exploitation and imperialism of the west to Africa, what will happen to our people?
The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people. Why criticizing Mugabe on things that make sense that we all know but keep silence because “If we stop and help these people what will happen to us” kind of approach?

He is 88yrs Old and he should retire. Zimbabwe is NOT short of leaders after him. He said currently no one is capable of standing and he is not grooming any one as that can bring instability. This is Nonsense. Bob has seen better days, he needs to step aside and be an advisor. what else can he achieve which he has never achieved before at 88yrs Old with severe mental lapses he has now.

My Mbuya Mugabe speaks in accordance with his experience. Gadafi is gone due to this cowerdance leaders who could not even speak out.The NATO killed Gadafi not the Lybian people. Wise thinking…

to some extend i agree with the comments made by passy, our current crop of leaders are surely a sellout if only we had a couple of strong leaders who could stand up for our continent.

Good observation by the pastor, much as we need help from those so called super powers we should also try and make our continent a better place not to be a dumping place or an experimenting ground for evil things. Let us stand up and surport each other on issues of substance.

Good observation feligo, poverty or no poverty! we shud protect our resource, use them wisely & leave some for our great grand children whom we expect to do the same.
Temporal manufactured material gains we exchange with alot of our raw materials should be controlled.
These people who only think of what to eat next and not how to sustain their food supply for the next generation as well are a danger to this continent.
Where are our future generation going to get raw materials to exchange with manufactured goods.Let’s learn how to manufacture now & use our raw materials wisely.

Just to responed to Zebige, its a shame that you can’t see what is happening on your continent. The Man is full of facts and if you fail to interpret what the old man say then i’m afraid what kind of a peron you are. If you have nothing to contribute then you better zip up your lips, you cant see that the whites still have great envy for africa. thats why the have targeted the big strong guys in the world so that they remain with people like you who will just be saying yes bwana.

Pastor Lumbu thanks for the wisdom, i pray it sinks into some of ba nkosamitwe commenting just for the sake of it. Like i said yesterday “do not look too much on the wrongs of the incumbent or you will miss the very point you are supposed to look out for to make the difference” Bad leadership or not Mugabe is right in his speach and UNLESS YOU ARE COWARD, YOU WILL LIKE IT. Zebige, Love and the like; you are embarrassing.

Worshiping an egomaniac…wonder will never end!!!!
At 88, Mugabe is still so power crazed that he can not even entertain the thought that Zimbo’s can get on perfectly well without him!!! He still wants to stand as presido in the next election
I miss the days when hero’s were not zero’s like this egomaniac!

The west is playing the same old trick; divide and rule. Blind us to the really problem and make us believe that Mugabe is the problem. Mugabe might be the problem, he is just part of the problem, and so are we, the general/regular people for allowing this to continue happening.

Its very true, Robert Mugabe is one of the few intelligent african president abd i know he has meant no harm to his people in reclaiming what is rightfully theirs from the white settlers. My only problem with Him is that he has overstayed in power. He needed to maintain his dignity by actually stepping down and hand over power to the young generation, even picking someone from the ZANU PF party to continue from where he will have ended. But hey, he wont do this because he wants to only be stopped by death. Just what does it take to have someone like Mandela Eh!!!!.
