Mweene Presence Erupts Kabwe Into FRENZY

Scores of people stormed the office of the Central Province permanent secretary on Tuesday morning to have a glimpse of Chipolopolo goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.

Mweene was in Kabwe enroute to Chief Kanyensha’s palace to receive 250 hectares of land and two cattle the chief pledged to give him for saving a penalty kick from a Ghanaian player during a Ghana/Zambia AFCON semi-finals.
Messengers at the permanent secretary’s office had tough time to control the crowd that gathered in numbers to enter the office and see the Chipolopolo goal minder.

Mweene, who was with national team physician Kabungo was spotted at Shoprite where he went to buy a few items to carry with him as a horde of people followed him to the office of the permanent secretary.

Officers trooped out of their locations after word went round that he was in town and flocked to the office of the permanent secretary while others peeped through their windows to catch a glimpse of the Africa Cup of Nations golden glove hero.

When Mweene emerged from the permanent secretary’s office, people lined up to get a handshake as some youths asked for money from him.

In an interview with ZANIS, Mweene said he was grateful to the Zambians for the support they showed the team during AFCON.

He said it was the support the team received from all Zambians that gave the players confidence to play hard and win the competition.

Mweene further said players at the AFCON believed in God hence they did not panic but concentrated on the ball.

On the farm he was given by Chief Kanyensha, Mweene said he was grateful by the gesture of the chief adding the gift was one thing that he will cherish with his family.

Asked if he had owned a farm before, Mweene said the Kanyensha farm will be the first one to own in his life and that he would keep it for his family.

Mweene, with Central Province permanent secretary Edwin Zumbunu and some reporters, left for chief Kanyensha’s palace where he is expected to be shown his farm and two cattle.

And Mweene please remain faithful to your wife/partner. Now that you have fame and money, the women will certainly come after you – women like me who know exactly where a man’s weakness lies. So be careful we do not want to bury you too soon like a lot of zambian celebrities

Congrats Mweene but lets not insult Milanzi, the man has contributed a lot to Zambian soccer. I used to like Harry but this team is surely the best…

    February 29, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Mweene, Zambia National Soccer team and entire Zambia nation we congratulate you from Malawi. You made not only your country proud but the rest of SADC for this is the first time, if history does not deceive me, when a team from this region genuinely won Gold at AFCON. Forget about 1996 Bafana Bafana am sure they won because it was played at their backyard.

Mweene personally deserves a pat on the back for his confidence in manning the goal posts which saw him save those valuable penalties.

If what we heard that night girls in Lusaka gave out the sacred fruit for free in celebrating Zambia victory, then organise one also for Mweene (just joking).

Let’s not insult players who ve contributed to Zambian football bane, for tha big man to be in tha national team then,it means tha the coach n tha technical staff had confidence in him that he woud bring glory to Zed wit other players!!

U re tha same pipo who were insultin Gre@ Kalu 4 failing to score a penalty against Angola bt that person has contributed vry much 2 Zed football!!!

Let’s learn to appreciate bane! That’s what God expects of Us.

    God bless!!!

Mweene, a great hero! The man deserves that land and cattle for that sweet save…

Never sale your inheritance even if you are not prepared 4 it. Settle some of your ‘trusted’ relatives on that land mudala.

All the best as you continue to bring glory to our region..

Mwene reminds me of the departed hero, ‘Effort Chawala’ sorry to mention. I thought Mweene was a goal keeper from Backlay’s Premiership or Laliga, or Bundes. But has not reached that far, I wish u a bright future… to go that far….
