FODEP Welcomes MMD Provincial Conventions

Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi has welcomed the move by the opposition MMD to resort to holding provincial conventions to elect a new party president.

The MMD has opted to hold provincial conventions to elect a new leader rather than a national convention which would have cost the party between 2-3 billion kwacha.

This decision was arrived at by the party after failing to raising the funds for a national convention.

Mr. Chipenzi says it is important for the former ruling party to elect a new leader as soon as possible in order to allow quick continuation from were former president Rupiah Banda left from.

He tells QFM News that what is important for the party is to make all the changes within the provisions of its constitution to avoid causing confusion in the party.

Mr. Chipenzi has also advised the MMD to guard against the influence of the winning candidate in a particular province during the elections so as not to affect the results of other provinces.

Again, MMD continues to carry out unconstitutional methods to keep an elite group in power. This is nonsense. Holding 10 provincial conferences cannot be cheaper than holding one convention. The provincial conferences combined has more delegates than the convention. Who is controlling the MMD money now that RB has gone I wonders? From the pronouncements it appears it must be the National Secretary.T Why introduce a second VP for Administration when the National Secretary is supposed to manage Administration??? I predict that Kachingwe is going for VP position so this process favours him. If MMD follows this unconstitutional method, it will be another nail in ots own coffin. Selfishness and greed is rampant. Dora Silya knew what she was saying when she said Kachingwe is more likely to steal than herself. I agree with her
