Dr. Musokotwane Tells Sichinga to shut-up, “He Is Confusing People, He Is Just An accountant”

COMMERCE Minister Robert Sichinga must shut-up and stop commenting on economic issues because he is confusing people with matters he does not understand, says Former Finance Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane. Dr. Musokotwane who is MMD presidential aspirant said Sichinga was an accountant who did not understand economic issues therefore needs to leave technocrats at Bank of Zambia (BoZ) to comment on matters relating to the rebasing of the Kwacha.

He said Sichinga was embarrassing the PF administration in the manner he had economically mishandled the issues behind rebasing of the local currency with regards to its performance against other convertible denominations. Dr. Musokotwane said Mr Sichinga was fond of giving un-researched opinions on issues he did not understand himself. “Sichinga is just an accountant, he is not an economist and it will be good for him to leave issues to do with the economy and rebasing of the Kwacha to people at the Bank of Zambia because I know that there are more capable and credible people who can authoritatively comment on such matters.” said Dr. Musokotwane.

He said Sichinga’s understanding of the rebasing of the Kwacha was a mere dream which won’t help the nation and government but confuse people because value for the currency did not come about by changing or knocking down of zeros.

Dr. Musokotwane said there was need for the nation to invest critically in the manufacturing industriy whose products would compete favorably on the international market. He observed that the continued mismanagement of communication of information being given to the public by the PF administration was a source of concern and if not checked would create an economic crisis to the nation.

Last week government said it would proceed with plans to rebase the local currency to strengthen the value to 1964 levels despite calls by some quarters to defer it to a later date. Sichinga said rebasing the Kwacha was necessary as it would lead to reduction in the cost of doing business; reduce inconvenience and risks associated with carrying large amounts of currency for transactional purposes. He said once the Kwacha was rebased, it was likely to become stronger against major convertible currencies, citing when the local unit traded at par with the British pound in 1960s. “In 1964, our Kwacha and Malawian Kwacha were at par with a (British) pound. Exactly at K2 to a pound, this is because the currency was strong,” he said. Sichinga said rebasing the Kwacha would accrue huge benefits to everyone.

Musokotwane, please be informed that Sichinga is not the only accountant in Zambia. It is an insult to insinuate that Accountants do not understand a thing about economic issues. Only if you knew how wide the subjects accounting studies cover, you will realise that your statement exhibits massive ignorance. I will not say how shallow you are as an economist because I know there are more brilliant economists in Zambia who can think better than you. You are an individual failure who changed nothing for the better when you served as Finance Minister. You cant even be compared to Magande…

I like the thinking of Bo Musokotwane. He tends to think he is the smartest Economist in the country and what ever he vomits should make sense. the Chap is as dull as the back of his head. Does he know what it takes to train an account. has he been to check their syllabubs? He is the most useless economist I have come across. I know economists are miser and can economize even on the most trivial of things, But this one is beyond that. I bet he does that even for sex.

He Sata is beginning to attack people. Where is justice if the Chief is being prejudicial (The case of Dora Siliya – Already guilty according to MCS)

Typical Zambian; you cannot stratify professionals and accuse someone’s opinion to be influenced by their profession. These days, its about integration or cross specialisation. Any professional that disrespects other professions commits the greatest sin of all in professional misconduct; more-so a former academic like Musokotwane. You may only question professional integrity if the decisions under discussion border on a known professional sequence that, if followed, entails good practice. For instance, I may not insult a lawyer who goes against the principle of precedence, but I would ask their justification for deciding outside a known way of deciding.

    April 12, 2012 at 10:02 am

@ Mutakila, What did you Nevers say when he was burgled and who did he accuse? Please reason even if you have small minds. Your Nevers Pastor accused Head of state that he sent the burglars to his home and the Head of State like any other citizen has a right to defend himself from unfounded allegations of a Pastor who up to now cant tell the Police how much was stolen from his bag. One is even left to wonder if there was even money in his bag as he claims.

The best way to challenge a point made by someone is by agueing it out. Stating facts why the other school of thought could be wrong. Dr. Musokotwane, please, if you aspire to be a republican president learn to respect others and their views. Bob didn’t shoot you by stating what he did therefore you are just an independent contributor. Do not keep so much hatred for nothing. Look, political positions are for all Zambians and cannoy last you your life time just remember that. Its very normal that you are no longer a minister of Finance and it does not take anything away from you and I am very sure you can live on and positively contribute to the nation.

Re-basing the kwacha will not strengthen the currency. What will happen to its Purchasing power against other currencies.the purchasing power is the comparison of trade between economies and not who has the most Zeros.

TruthHurts,I agree with your well thought out opinion! I mean do you need to be an Economist to understand Rebasing? For the information of all,the largest number of people on the rebasing project are not economists. They are accountants and bankers, including the chairman himself!

People should learn to separate proffesion from individual opinions.

Musokotwane is just as disappointing as Bob!

But where is ZICA in all this to defend Accountants?

Dr Musokotwane shamelessly implies that accountants are inferior to economists! Are you sure Doc?

Does the Doctor even know the curriculum of an accountant? Would the Doctor have made it as an accountant at his time as an undergraduate in Chikwakwa?

Please check the University cut-ff points, even now, for business schools as compared to the humanities and make self assessments. Hon. Sichinga’s views really are simply personal, but not representating the accounting profession. I beg to differ!

IF YOUR SYLLABUS HAS REASONABLE DEPTH IN ECONOMICS HOW COME THIS ACCOUNTANT SEEMS TO SUGGEST OTHERWISE?

Dr Musokotwane your ignorance is both supprising and irritating. am supprised that a man who onced held the position of minister of finance does not actually understand issues in the very ministry he served.for your info accountants learn economics. am an accountant,mr musokotwane accounts is very wide than you have ever imagined. if u u think by being some economist you know so much y didnt we see that when you were minister.u r a total failure hence you r the one who shud shut up. I know rebasing the kwacha will not make the kwacha stronger. bt the way you expressed your funny opinions is wht is annoying.

    Uncle Bob may be talkative but pipo let us not be little the man, He is a genius. To stress my arguments I have a few points for those who may be belittling Bob;
    1. Bob was Qualified as an accountant in 1975
    2. He was among the first 5 qualified accountants in Zambia
    3. He has a wonderful CV backed by main years of experince both in public and private practice.
    4. He served this country has financial controller for the massive ZCCM.

Lastly, for ‘Economist’ Musokotwane to be insulting the Accountancy profession like that does he appreciate the strides that the profession has made in this country. Zambian accountants are proud and well respected throughout the world for their sharpness and professionalism. Just look at their ZICA Head office, well organised; its a leading example among the professions in the country.

May the man from the nation of barotseland shut his bick.

Accounts is very easy no wonder u hav a lot of ZICA students engaging in porn since they rely on study packs just to pass the exam and come out quarter baked. most questions in accounts are repetition. its like O-Level exams the more you hav past papers the more easy will be the exams in the meanitime there is nothing u hav learnt,no wonder governement does nt recognise ACCA or CIMA as equivalent to a degree and the entry point in civil service is different between one with CBU’s BACC and ACCA
