President Sata Condemns ‘Illegal’ Western Sanctions On Zimbabwe

ZAMBIAN President Michael Sata yesterday bemoaned the effects of illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western countries.

He also supported the land reform programme, saying the liberation struggle would have been in vain had land remained in the hands of a few.

President Sata said Zimbabwe’s economy could perform much better without the illegal sanctions.
He made the remarks during a tour of Dairibord Zimbabwe Limited.

“Zimbabwe is surviving under harsh conditions because of sanctions. If there were no sanctions, they (Dairibord) would do very much better than this.”

The Zambian leader, who was elected into office in September last year, said entrepreneurs in his country had a lot to learn from Dairibord.
“We need to get some of those people to come and see how their friends are doing here,” he said.

He pledged to create business for Dairibord in Zambia.

President Sata was in a jovial mood and cracked jokes throughout his tour.
On noticing Deputy Prime Minister Professor Arthur Mutambara’s name and signature in Dairibord’s visitors’ book, he said: “Mutambara was Acting Prime Minister, where was the Prime Minister? Why was he acting PM?”

President Sata has always advocated the removal of sanctions that have affected Government efforts to turnaround the economy.
He later toured Tyron Farm in Mashonaland East Province owned Cde Noah Mangondo where he threw his weight behind the country’s agrarian reforms.
“You should not be cheated, the whole world survives on land. America is what it is because of land. The fight for Zimbabwe would have been in vain if land did not go back to where it belonged.”

Changwe, it pains to realise fools like you still exsist in Africa. My friend, only idiots start fights they cant win. Some of us still remember how Zimbabwe was before the so called land reforms. Zimbabwe was a jaint. Zambia is just one big village. Simple sanctions, lest say for a month, can criple us to the extend where idiots like you can sell your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters for nshima. Tell your president to shut his big mouth.

it seems some pipo ve missed a cardinal point in respect to sanctions in zimbabwe. The country,it is true ,was heaven on earth b4 the sanctions and mugabe, seeminly has ovastayed in power howeva this doesnt give a leeway 4 bazungu 2 impose sanctions on the populace in such a crude and unprecedented way.the pipo are suffering and wat is paramount is dialogue bkoz u cant bring about democracy using sanctions and machiavellian antics.4get not this country is sovereign so the west must ve little to do with it as long as it does them in tandeem with its pipo’s dictates.pipo nid to advice the west and neva shud we venerate them as if all that they say and do is gospel trueth.let us tell west to toner down on zimbabwe and lets advice comrade mugabe to spid up democratik implimentation programs.the west ve neva bin fair to africa

The purpose of grabbing land from minority Whites farmers and redistributed to the underprivileged Blacks was RIGHT but the hostile takeover method used by Mugabe’s former freedom fighters[guerrillas] was WRONG. Just imagine our situation where land from lower Zambezi [on the shores of Zambezi river up to Kabwe rural was owned by one white farmer-Galun]
Mugabe [BABA Mukulu] was suppose resurvey and demarcate land that was to be shared among black peasant farmers and high profile commercial white farmers as well. In short he was 50% right and 50% wrong

ladies and gentles, Africa needs tough men in the likes of the old guards, uncle Bob… His excellence Micheal Sata’s stance in Zimzim is recommendable, Africa has a future while the Western world has the past. its high time we championed our own development. do u know that those guys who sought refuge from Zimzim in Z are now calling our own brothers and sisters dogs in Mkuski, its sad… they were homeless, we accommodated them, now they think they own us, what a shem. lets stand up for what is ours and champion our own African agenda… long live sata, long live Bob

The land reform idea was ok but the problem was the way Mr Mugabe handled it, using it as a campaign strategy, then party militants crashes his political opponents. Mr Mugabe practices no democracy at all, you would wonder why Mr sata would to associate himself to him. The sanctions are not against the land reforms, but denying his own people the right to vote in a free and fair election. How many ordinary and innocent people have died at the hand of the brutal dictator. Mr Sata should have spoken about those people who have been fighting for democracy.
