News has emerged and its all over the media that on 20th May,2012, people in Blantyre witnessed a Lesbian marriage, the first of its kind after Tionge and Steve had a gay marriage and attracted themselves a 14 years jail sentence during Bingu’s administarion.
This has given Joyce Banda a litmus test as the country’s majority does not condone ‘strange’ marriages, calling them unchristian and uncultural.
Malawi was widely condemned for the conviction and 14-year prison sentences given in 2010 to two men who were arrested after celebrating their engagement and were charged with unnatural acts and gross indecency.
Recently Malawi’s new president has pledged to lift the country’s ban on homosexuality, breaking ranks from much of Africa where such activity remains a crime.

@Tok2me: Not really to say this is just friendship and warm relation. They call it a marriage and we should understand it as such. Ordinary friendship calls for no ceremony or engangement you just move together unannounced. These actually have an affiliation that is just best described ‘marriage” thats y evrybody finds is strange, lets call a spade a spade.
