FIFA Checking Sudan Player’s Eligibility

FIFA is checking details of the case that Sudan fielded an ineligible player in their Brazil 2014 World Cup Group D match against Zambia.

Responding to a query from bolayathu.com on the status of the case, the world soccer governing body’s media department could neither confirm receipt of such a complaint regarding an ineligible player.

“We need to check and we will contact you as soon as we have news,” FIFA states as the Zambian FA says it has asked the body to look into the issue.
Sudan fielded Sail Ali, scorer of the second goal, in Zambia’s 2-0 defeat on June 2 but records show he was ineligible for the match as he was suspended.

The scandal in Sudan has caused a stir in that country with the Sudan Football Association secretary Hassan Saed calling for the formation of the commission of enquiry and resignation of the association president Hope Atbara.

According to alsad.net Saed said the Sudan FA was taking solace in the fact that Zambia had not pushed in an official complaint with FIFA.

“This is a scandal and a farce and a real emphasis on the lack of follow-up and attention within the Union,” he said.

According to the FIFA Disciplinary Code Chapter II, Section 2, Disorderliness at matches and Competitions Article 55, 1 States: “If a player takes part in an official match despite being ineligible, his team will be sanctioned by forfeiting the match (cf art.31) and paying a minimum fine of Swiss Francs 6,000.”

FIFA Disciplinary Code, Chapter 1, Section 2. Disciplinary measures Article.31.1 states: “A team sanctioned with a forfeit is considered to have lost the match by 3-0.”

The Falcons of Jerdiane lead the pack on four points in Group D, one better than Ghana and Zambia.

FAZ have published a half-hearted statement on their website claiming they were quietly pursuing the matter before the media blew the whistle.

THAT PLAYER IS VERY INLUENTIAL THAT IS WHY HE EVEN SCORED THAT SECOND GOAL, I WILL BE VERY HAPPY IF WE CAN GET THE 3 GOALS AND THREE POINTS, WHO KNOWS IT MAY BE ANOTHER GOD’S HAND ON OUR BELOVED CHRISTIAN NATION ZAMBIA.
