THE UPND is practicing an uncouth type of politics, says Sylvia Masebo.
Commenting on the UPND cadres who on Tuesday attacked a funeral procession after they mistook mourners for PF cadres while on Monday, they allegedly stripped naked a five months pregnant woman for wearing a PF chitenge material, Masebo said the opposition party already have a tag of being a tribal party and they now wanted to acquire another tag of being violent.
“It is really unfortunate in this day and age to have people who are coming from a funeral mistaking them for being cadres. These are desperate acts by desperate people, it is unnecessary. Hakainde Hichilema needs to put a stop to this. This is just a by-election, there is already a government until 2016 and that is PF. There are so many issues that are in Livingstone which need to be addressed. Uncouth politics scare away women from participating in elections,” Masebo said.
She said the people of Livingstone would be the ones to suffer should the UPND win the by-election as the many problems being faced by the tourist capital could only be addressed by President Sata and not Hichilema.
“What I saw in Livingstone is that the ground is very fertile for the PF; it will not add value to them (UPND). Even if they won, it will be the people of Livingstone who will be disadvantaged and not the PF government,” she said.
Masebo said President Sata found a lot of mess in the government left by the MMD and it would not be easy to clear it in a short space of time.
“Let the people of Livingstone give the PF an excuse but vote for Joseph Akafumba and hold PF responsible in 2016 if the city is not developed. Even HH is a complainant over certain issues such as the SI 33 over the dollarisation, but it is only Sata who can solve the problem and not the UPND,” Masebo said.
She, however, appealed to the PF members not to retaliate as the people would not tell the difference between the two political parties.
“Let the police deal with the issues professionally; two wrongs do not make a right,” Masebo said.
Samson Nguni of MC 176 in Maramba said UPND cadres coming from a meeting addressed by Hichilema attacked a convoy of mourners returning from a burial programme and beat people up.
“I was slapped and three others have their faces swollen. We reported the matter to the police but we are not happy with the manner they handled us as we had told them that they were near,” Nguni said.
On Monday at Dambwa Central Police Station, 21-year-old Veronica Syuulikwa of Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES) house number A3 said she was attacked by suspected UPND cadres who stripped off the PF chitenge material she wore.
“I was standing by the road when UPND cadres in vehicles passed by. Their candidate Rev Howard Sikwela was in the first vehicle. After a few seconds after they passed me, I was hit from behind and I fell down bruising my knees and hands. I could not see who had attacked me but they yanked off my chitenge and since I had nothing under it I remained in my pants and they ran with the chitenge back to a light truck which had stopped,” Syuulikwa explained.
Meanwhile, Captain Lawrence Nyambe yesterday said Hichilema’s call for Livingstone residents not to vote for the PF candidate Joseph Akafumba because of the Barotseland Agreement was an act of the highest mercenary opportunism and naked appetite for power.
Reacting to Hichilema’s statement on Monday that President Sata had cheated the Lozi people over the Barotseland Agreement, Capt Nyambe said the atrocities of January 14, 2011 were committed by the MMD which the UPND had gone to bed with.
“During the Kaunda era, the Barotseland Agreement became a top secret document and it was high treason to be found with it or talk about it. The Chiluba regime adopted the same policy over the matter. President Sata because of his honesty and genuine desire to find a lasting solution to the problem, as soon as he became President, he immediately pardoned all those that were detained in connection with the Mongu riots of January 14, 2011,” Capt Nyambe said during a press briefing at Ann Mukamba’s Steak House yesterday.
He said during the riots linked to the Barotseland Agreement, several people were shot dead and many more wounded and maimed although the government put the figure of those killed at only two.
“HH is asking the Lozi people in Livingstone to vote for his candidate. He does not care and does not feel for those of our Lozi fathers, brothers and uncles who were killed by HH’s new friends (MMD). For HH, votes for his candidate Rev Sikwela in Livingstone will only give him added zeal to insult the head of state and stop his members of parliament from meeting PF ministers to discuss developmental issues. For HH, Lozi life is nothing, it can be traded for a vote,” he said.
Capt Nyambe, who is Lifweko village headman in Mongu, said President Sata must be commended by all Lozi people for opening up debate on the Barotseland Agreement.
“President Sata encouraged the press to publicise the agreement for all to read. The Barotseland Agreement is a very important document and us in the PF look at it as one which could be used as a model and tool to develop the whole country, fortunately for us it is in line with our manifesto on decentralisation,” said Capt Nyambe.

We all live and learn. In the world brutality wins.
In Zambia it is not about how convincing your argument is or how eloquent your candidate is, it is not even whether (s)he has the ability to deliver. It is about how big your stick is and how uncouth and violent your supporters are.
The worse your “cadres” are, the better. If you have brainless savages its even better. If they can crack skulls before they crack a book best.
Now the culture has changed. Sylvia Masebo and other politicians forget it. You sowed the savage seeds and nurtured the savage sprouts during mmd. Now we have glorified savagery and thuggery and you are shocked?
Stop insulting and protecting abusers and maybe you can start reversing the tide. Otherwisebe prepared for all-out-war at every corner.

What is wrong with HH? Is he a serious politician or just a selfish person bent on becoming the president of Zambia and to hell with everyone and everything else? Instead of personalising his politics, HH should offer alternative programms likely to solve Zambia’s many problems to the sitting Government. Zambians are not all foolish, we are watching them all and come 2016 we will decide for a leader most likely to work for the people and not one bent on dividing us on tribal grounds. Wake up HH! I thought you were an educated man! we are watching you and the way you are behaving, you are running a risk of being written off as a credible leader.
