KAWAMBWA Tea Company (KTC) fields are in tall grass and may be destroyed by bush fires if nothing happens to secure them, says area
Member of Parliament Nickson Chilangwa.
Chilangwa said the fields had not been weeded for over two years following the workers’ strike that was caused by non – payment of
wages and salaries.
He said the fields were now rain – fed because the investor did not have an irrigation system for the winter period.
And Chilangwa has revealed that he is engaging the Office of the Vice President through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU)
to come to the aid of the company in order to secure the fields.
“The Kawambwa tea situation can be classified as a disaster and hence the appeal to the DMMU to come to the rescue.” Chilangwa said.
The parliamentarian said there was need for the company management to urgently work out a fire- break around the fields to protect them from
destruction.
He described the investor as a total failure who had let the people of Kawambwa and Luapula Province as a whole.
The MP however ruled out a move by government to repossess the company as it was too early for that.
He also revealed that he was in talks with the Republican President appeal to him to intervene in the KTC problem.

Ba MP muli bakopo. Govt doesn’t step into private property. First ask investor to declare bankruptcy or liquidity issues.

Someone please look seriously into this. This is where employment will come from. There aren’t enough white collar jobs for everyone. PF this is your chance to revive the plantation and provide jobs for the people of Kawambwa.
