ZNBC Reporters Annoys Nsanda Over Reports Of Postponed Wedding With Esther Phiri ‘Am Not Marrying Your Mother’
WILLIE Nsanda yesterday afternoon stormed into ZNBC head office in Lusaka and insulted directors and reporters following a broadcast about the postponement of his alleged ‘wedding’ to boxer Esther Phiri.
And when contacted to confirm the postponement of his alleged wedding with Esther 28, yesterday, Nsanda threatened to sue The Post.
Meanwhile, Esther has been summoned to Matero Police Station to help with investigations following complaints by over 50 people who were allegedly swindled after being hired as a bridal party for the purported wedding.
Nsanda, 56, also threatened the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation workers with dismissals for reporting the issue.
Sources within ZNBC told The Post that Nsanda and Zambia’s most celebrated female sports personality, Esther, were supposed to get married on Saturday but that the wedding was postponed.
“What we know is that the two were supposed to get married yesterday Saturday but the wedding was postponed. But today, there was something that was aired at 10hrs on our national broadcaster that compelled Hon Nsanda to come to our newsroom to insult all the reporters and directors,” the sources said.
The sources said Nsanda asked reporters whether it was strange for a man to have sex with a woman he loved.
We were surprised and shocked because the words that Mr. Nsanda used were too extreme. He was like, imwe tamwalalapo umwanakashi bushe? Naimwe bamayo bushe tabamilalapo bushe. Bushe mulandu ukulala umwanakashi? Have you never had sex with a woman before? And even you, have you never had sex with a man before? Is it wrong for two people who are in love to have sex?,” they said.
sanda later drove out of ZNBC but was stopped by Post reporters who wanted to find out what had transpired and whether he had a problem.
Nsanda who looked disturbed only asked the reporters to accompany him to ZNBC director of programmes Kenneth Maduma’s office. Upon reaching the office, Nsanda asked Maduma to tell Post reporters what had transpired.
Maduma who also looked uncomfortable responded by saying nothing had happened and denied publishing any statements but promised to get to the bottom of the allegations.
But other ZNBC sources said a story on the postponement of Nsanda’s wedding to Esther was broadcast on TV2 on Saturday, repeated on Sunday morning but that when the translated news item was about to be read in the seven local languages, it was cancelled on grounds of being ‘defamatory’.
Nsanda complained of alarmists within ZNBC whom he claimed were being paid by politicians to assassinate him.
“People are trying by all means to get rid of me. They are out there to get my life. I know what is going on, and it is all a political gimmick. I need the phone number of the person who called you,” he said.
“I have an idea of who it is and I am sure the two individuals are tired of working for ZNBC. They worked for ZNBC when Rupiah was president and they are still working. It’s like they are tired of working.”
Nsanda continued threatening Post journalists: “Do you know who you are talking to, I will show you my NRC, no my driving license. If you think you are very powerful I will show you who is more powerful, I will stretch my tentacles to show you how much power I have got.”
And Nsanda said he did not want his peace to be disturbed.
“It is very interesting. I feel there is someone who wants to attack me. I will see your boss editor- in -chief Fred Mm’embe. Let me see your boss because I am also a manager of a company,” he said. “We don’t want to start suing newspapers which we know, do you understand? Hello!
Newspapers which are our friends. Why are you pushing your luck too far? What is the problem?”
Asked if it was true that a wedding had been postponed, Nsanda, in reference to the people that were claiming compensation from him over the cancelled marriage, said he was not marrying their mother.
“Marrying who? Am I marrying your mother,” said Nsanda. “You The Post have never attacked me and I have not attacked you. Please let me enjoy my peace.”
And Mwamba yesterday said a Lusaka woman, Alice Phiri, who claims to be Esther’s sister, had allegedly been going round “duping people that Esther and Nsanda were going to have a wedding”.
He also denied that there was a planned wedding between Esther and Nsanda.
“The police are investigating this matter, you can call them,” said Mwamba.
And police sources confirmed instituting investigations into the matter and have since summoned Esther to appear at Matero Police to assist with investigations.
The source said over 50 youths and 17 women from the organising committee of the purported wedding reported the matter to Matero Police Station after they were allegedly swindled by Alice.
“We have also summoned a Mrs Miti, who was the matron. The complainants in the matter are 50 boys and girls who were supposed to be on the line up and 17 women who were in the organising committee who are claiming refund from Alice and Mrs Miti. This is the first time I have heard of 50 people on the line up, it is very strange. So Esther and Mrs Miti will appear tomorrow between 9:00 hours and 10:00 hours,” the source said.
The source further said police are also investigating to establish whether a wedding had been planned between Esther and Nsanda.
“As to the wedding, we are still investigating to establish whether there was really supposed to be a wedding or not. So we have summoned Esther through the promoter Mwamba to appear before the police tomorrow (today) morning. We will know more details tomorrow (today). The so-called matron is also coming tomorrow (today),” said the source.
