THE education department in Kalomo has introduced a ‘log in and log out system’ for all the teachers in the area in an effort to improve the delivery of effective and quality education system which saw the district coming second last from the then 72 districts in the country in last year’s grade Seven results
performance.
District education board secretary, Anna Masilani disclosed this at a full council meeting held in Zimba yesterday saying the move though having been received with mixed feelings by her teaching fraternity
would improve on teachers to concentrate on their duties other than leaving pupils an unattended to without concrete reasons for absenting themselves from teaching sessions.
Masilani observed that the pass mark of grade Sevens brought the district at 71 out of the72 districts due to what she alleged to be poor supervision of teachers by their superiors hoping that the new
intervention might help to once again improve the pass marks for pupils at all examination grades.
She said a total of 700 pupils at grade Seven, nine and 12 were last year reported to be absent during examinations for not yet established reasons, a situation she described as worrying for the education
advancement of the minors.
And 20 community schools in Kalomo are earmarked to be changed into established government aided basic schools, Masilani has disclosed.
Masilani also complained of the rampant mushrooming of community schools in the district prompting her department to take up 20 out of the existing 60 in the district with proper infrastructure to be
converted into full government grant aided schools so that they qualify to have qualified teachers than a situation where they are taught by non professionals.
She lamented that the mushrooming of community schools was worrying because quality education delivery was being compromised at the pretext of reducing long distances between learning institution by the
creation of such entities saying Kalomo had a largest junk of such institutions in the province alongside with Gwembe district.
Meanwhile, councillors in Kalomo have submitted that government consider giving civic leaders gratuity at the end of their five year term like their parliamentary counterparts.
And both Dundumwezi and Mapatizya parliamentarians, Edgar Sing’ombe and Clive Miyanda respectively have called on the Zambezi river authority development fund to continue supporting people of Nkandazofu
and Njabalombe communities in Kalomo who paved way for construction of the Kariba dam in the 1950s. The two civic leaders said while other beneficiaries in the valley were still enjoying living on their
historical ancestral pieces of land, people of the two locales were relocated and have no meaningful development such as accessible roads, enough water and other social amenities.

This story is a very good example of very bad journalism! For starters, one cant even tell whether the DEBS in question is for Kaoma district or Kalomo district. The two cant just be the same! How many times have we advised Tumfweko to hire an editor for their work (you can get one easily even from Matero)! Please, guys you’re beginning to behave like chimbwi no plan as well! Wake up. or you’ll be relegated to the archives of nonsense!

very confusing -the heading is kaoma,in the main body the story is about kalomo.if it is kaoma of western province, how can the meeting be conducted in zimba of southern province.may be there is new kaoma realigned in southern.under chimbwiis such things are possible.they can take bornes from the land to the river and from the river to the land.

it is dear and nice that such developments are taking place.our education system is rely going down not because of the pupils but the people that instruct the pupils.they are the head and we are the tails.
i personally support the idea looking at the current results they are registered as below par.
it is really a desirable and honarable move to take.
