Following revelations during the day about opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema over bribery of K8,300,000 to some named University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) members in order for them to incite fellow students, heavy riots have finally broken out at UNZA great East road campus.
It looks like Baghdad in the wake of a US assault. The students are allegedly rioting over the premature closure of the school.
Police have since moved in to calm the situation with tear gas canisters.
Further the students are protesting over the intentions to pay them less than what they get.
UNZA management indicated even before reopening that it would go on recess, 30th october,2012 to facilitate renovations of the badly damaged infrastructure in readiness for the zone 6 SADC games that are supposed to take place at the institution.

The only watchdog Zambia has is UNZA. So some politicians try to take advantage of this. Sorry, but they do not swing the electoral mood of the nation coz they are mostly a mob in charecter. They react to a specific problem.

Cornelius Mweetwa. Political bribes made you fall out fo grace with students. Now you are at it again. Advise HH as an intellectual. UNZA is a watchdog to govt. But it does not swing the national mood coz it is deemed childish in reaction.

What will fail us as Zambians is this tendency of always expecting others to do things for us. Aba ba monko have a point to argue. But when admin wishes to use the upcoming activities to rehabilitate the institution, you let Mweetwa & HH hoodwink you. Mukakula lilali?

Fellow country men and women, lets find the root cause of this unwarranted riots by allowing the police to investigate and prosecute all those behind this evil. Its very unfair that most citizens are looking forward to enrol at UNZA when the greedy ones are busy bringing acrimony. If found wanting HH should be jailed and banned from practicing politics for life.

August 13, 2012 at 9:00 am
How is your logic. The issue’s that the students want addressed will not go away just because you try to politicise them and even if your story had a fraction of truth to it it would mean that even UNZA students have lost that much faith in SATA that they can approach HH for support. You guys will turn HH into a hero continue…

2007 that thing UNZA was closed for almost eight months from March to November and I will not be surprised if Government did the same, if you think the whole country will even notice!!
The country has more significant things to lose sleep over than spoiled brats who think they are the first ones to step on UNZA grounds!!
Close it now and send them home to become John Solye bwali, please!!

UNZA Radion has become a propaganda machine and not a journalism teaching radio station, the presenters there and there perpetuial callers are all politically inclided to UPND and are Tongas or Tonga sympathisers who have no shame haranguing Government everyday and praising HH non-stop!!
Even within the context of media freedom, lets ensure that no one abuses that to creat anarchy in this country, media is very dangerous.
You may have difficulties closing the watchdog but School of Mass Communications can be sanctioned to ensure that the radio stations works according to its objective, a teaching mechanism for student sof mass communications and not a political tool for Bantustans!!

Voilent riots is a serious way of which an agrieved party resorts to if their concerns are not getting favorable responses. Can govt for once get into the concerns raised by irate students not just at UNZA but also CBU,Hone etc.I’ve not studied at UNZA(am a chartered accountant) but I think govt needs to look at these isues haulistically bringing in police with tear gas is never the solutions rather its better to listen to the agrieved party(students). We are tired of these yearly disturbances at UNZA.If govt has failed to run this school then better privatise it or commercialise it period
