HH Pleads Not Guilty, Granted K30 Million Cash Bail

HAKAINDE Hichilema the leader of United Party for National Development (UPND) who was arrested by Zambia Police Service this morning has pleaded not guilty to the one count of publishing false information to the public.

Facts before the court are that Mr Hichilema on June 11, 2012 at Lusaka did orally publish statements in which he said inter alia that “PF had signed an agreement for the militia in Sudan to train PF youths, prepare for trouble”

“Do you know what is going on in Dafur ?. Do you know what is going on in Abyei? Do you know what is going on there? Killings” Statements which are likely to cause fear or alarm the public.

Mr Hichilema, 50, a Businessman and Politician took plea before Chief Resident Magistrate, Joshua Banda, in the Lusaka magistrates’ court today.

Magistrate Banda granted Mr Hichilema a K 30 million cash bail, with two working sureties based in Lusaka and further ordered that his passport be surrendered to the Senior Clerk of Court.

Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo and his Zambezi West counter part Charles Kakoma signed the bail on behalf of the UPND leader.

Mr Hichilema is charged with one count of publication of false news with intent to cause fear and alarm to the public contrary to section 67 (1) (1) of the penal code cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Mr Hichilema will appear on September 13 for mention and trial commences on October 1 to 5 this year.

The Zambia Police Service earlier in the morning today formally arrested and charged Mr Hichilema for allegedly publishing false information to the public.

Mr Hichilema arrived at the Zambia Police Service Headquarters at 10:30 hours in the company of his lawyers Sakwiba Sikota, Jack Mwiimbu and Alliance for Democracy and Development President Charles Milupi.

His supporters were however stopped by the police to enter the Service Headquarters.

Mr Hichilema was arrested around 11 hours and was later driven to Woodlands Police station where all the formalities were done.

Mr Hichilema has been arrested in connection with a statement he made on June 11, this year that the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sudanese government to train youths in that country as militia.

I am very concerned with people who, instead of posting issues, continuously post anti tonga sentiments. Fellow countrymen and women, this is not good for our country. If you hate HH, hate the man alone and not all Tongas. Let is not be irresponsible. Such utterances have caused havoc in many a country. I hope in the eyes of the PF and our ZP, the above is not treason.

By the way, HH’s arrest is making headlines in the international press. Wrong move PF.

One need not be a degree holder to understand all this. In Arab countries, this is a very serious case that lead to extermination insiting the public or should me say alarming the public to be up in arms with the govt of the day, i can sure you is grave case in other countries.I silute Chimupundu for his vast understanding of issues almost in all angles. These tongas cannot see that a certain colour is pink or blue to them all colours are white. There was a very intelligent man called Harry Mwanga Nkumbula. He did not acheived what he wanted to acheive because of regionalism that is ever with the tongas.Who will go to plot one with two or three province according to Zambian politics? The answer is non. No one will win this presidency by winning one third of the total number of the provinces that Zambia have today.

Nicola, mind your language and stop insulting other tribes you son of ***** or is it you *****. For your own infor, MSC has only a quota knowledge of what HH knows, but people blinded by evil ushered him into office. It doesn’t make him a better leader. If you have a tiny brain, atleast you know by now that your vote on MSC was wasted and put the country in this mess we see everyday. Tribalist skunks!! Foolish Bembas… One day we should meet on the streets and we shall see who is foolish.

Guys, please. If you have an issue with Sata hammer Sata. If you have an issue with HH, hammer HH. Do not bring this tonga and bemba nonsense. We are one Zambia and one nation. Our diversity is our strength. No one chose to be born bemba or tonga.

I am not Bemba or Tonga, but what i know is that the majority will always win,Bembas are many no 2ways about it,Tongas are few no 2 ways about it,this means if the majority and fools then no 2 ways again, they will continue winning, the only way is to inspire them maybe they can support u to win and not to insult them,RB had money and power but he failed to win,my bro/sister money is just a small slice of life.HH can not fail to pay yes but is he going to win people’s hearts with him money and greediness?SATA and PF had no money but today they are the presidents why?they won hearts not bodies.HH should win hearts not bodies,it is not too late tell him

its true with what they!every word of a famous person is held accountable.

there are bad words we say around but no actions are taken upon us.

One thing these pipo who are busy persecuting HH is that they are making the man to be famous.
its good that he was not found with anything stolen.

You can try by all means to drain his ma sagali but you will never get not even a quarter of his wealth.

    2016, vibe HH.

HH may be a good person but he is power hungry. Being in opposition does not mean critising every effort the gov’t is making. He shud learn to give credit where it is due, failing to do so, I would say his CV is useless. He shud also learn not to involve other countries on our local politics. If surely he is a learnt man he then shud know ‘Diplomatic Relations’ coz when he becomes a Republican President the relationship with Sudan may be affected.

Ladies and gentlemen, tribal politics is a recipe for civil war. Remember Lwanda genocide.Tustsi vs Hutus! Many of you have watched a film ‘Hotel Lwanda’. That depicts what exactly happened, its not just a film. It reminds me a lot.For the love of God please stop it!!! Lets cherish and enjoy the peace we have and not to ask for things we can not contain.God bless Zambia!

HH chipuba sana fye…. I think the man has syphillis and it is now getting to his brain. Where is Mutinta in all this – she needs to be taken back into the house. I mean how can she fail to user her p***sy to control this man’s behaviour. She is a total failure and embarrassment to the female race. F***k the man and then instruct him to quit politics otherwise, Mutinta will find herself broke with nothing to feed or educate her children. If there is anything that eats money it is a political campaign – HH should save what he has because he will NEVER enter state house

Im not supporting comments of insults, but let me advice my brothers and sisters from southern province. Since we are all Zambiams you can aswell give us a president if only you change your attitude towards others.4sure bembas are not segregative like you because in 2001 they voted for Mazoka and supported him until you fellow tongas eliminated him through the then MP for Kalomo central Request Muntanga. Anderson had a strategy which HH doesn’t have ,Harry mwanga nkumbula had a strategy which is luckily in HH’s politics, katwishi nga bwaiche. Please fellow tongas advice this charp to emulate ba Mazoka naba Mwaanga not the way hes taking it patali sanafye.

I regret being born Bemba through my parents. Each time i walk on the streets of soweto, polokwane, mafikizolo and other several mzansi townships i only feel so much pity and shed tears. This is because the picture of mother zambia becomes vivid into my mind more especially that my tribe is the one responsible for corruption, povert and witchcraft which have all hampered that national cake to be equally shared.May we (Bembas)be cursed to the ground where our selfish forefathers lie, may our useless and good for nothing Bemba tribe continue begging from surrounding neighbours and let everything that we do as a tribe come to knot.May the intelligent sons of chief Moonze continue to prosper both materially and academically so that they may give direction to our poor seed whose stealing and ubuntutulu has made us what we are. Amen
