More Lose Jobs In Siavonga Over Minimum Wage

Siavonga Member of Parliament Kennedy Hamudulu says people in his constituency have continued losing jobs following government’s announcement of the revised minimum wage.

Mr. Hamudulu has told QFM News that those affected are mostly people employed in the hospitality industry.

The opposition parliamentarian adds that some of those affected do not even fall under the minimum wage category as they have union representation.

Mr. Hamudulu notes that lack of clarity by the government on the minimum wage is what has led to misunderstandings between some unionized workers and their employers.

He adds that government need to clearly state that the minimum wage is meant for people who do not have union representation to bargain on their behalf to avoid further confusion.

the revising of the minimum wage will bring more harm, its not just in siavonga but all over the country. government should come in quick this is the way of saying more money in the wallets and more jobs, while people are losing jobs every day because of the revised minimum wage

lets stop complaining about the Minimum wage because pipo have suffered enough of getting penuts, can you imagine a security officer/garden boy families getting K250,000 or K300,000 per month, no medicals, transport and Food allowance and yet pipo are busy criticizing yes more jobs will be lost but pipo deserve decent salaries, and the inspection should start as soon as possible enough is enough

Hamudulu is an MP for Siavonga and he is knowledgeable enough that the SI on minimum wage does not cover the unionised employees. Why is he not engaging the workers and the business community in his constituency to elaborate this fact? All he wants is to politic that government must explain. Honourable Hamudulu is part of one of the arms of government which is the legislature. It is his duty as much as it is Hon. Shamendas. Zambian parliamentarians and the executive must stop the politics and work together for the betterment of the welfare of Zambians.

Generalising the whole issue without facts. Put the number of people retrenched and which companies are cutting manpower. Not this hearsay meant to gain political sympathy.

I used to pay my maid K450,000/mth and she ate our food, used water, bathed, washed her clothes evrythin for free. Now that I couldn’t afford the new minimum wage I laid her off.In less than a month she has gone turned to prostitution.Am sure Shamenda will be happy to hear this.SAD INDEED

Give them what is due to them. You people, when your salaries are not increased, you go on strike and looting. When your salaries are increased, you do not increase the salaries of maids and so on. You just increase in your spending and extra marital affairs. As your King, I am now very angry with you heartless people and I am watching you with your lavish lives you are living at the expense of my poor people. CAN YOU TRY TO HAVE A HUMAN HEART PLEASE.

Hamudulu, sir, even as @Jala says (not MP for Siavonga}, the tenets of a business industry will make those firing to re-hire. Once the few left are overwhelmed with work, they are going to hire again I assure you. Even @ABAKONZI will do the same when his family sees that the wife is overwhelmed with house chores.

Mr hamudulu are you not aware that you are duty bound to explain to your people any such legislature?Do not be political for nothing.
To employers, slave wages means employees will be stealing more from your buisiness, demotivated and be prone to accidents which will result in man hour loses.
A WISE EMPLOYER MUST NOT FOLLOW THE REASONING OF THE USELESS ZAMBIAN OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTIES,OTHERWISE YOU SUFFER LOSES FOR NOTHING.Mind you there is a risk of loosing your buisiness licence, careful Govement is busy looking at your activities as employers after the announcement of the minimum wage.

Hon. Kennedy Hamudulu we did not send you to parliament to go sit, doze and fatten uself. what do you understand by minimum-wage? does it affect unionised workers? or it is a mouth piece of tortured workers with slave wages without unions? go to your constituency and explain to the employers with their employees what minimum-wage is all about.

@ Kakolwe you have a valid point there, yes house chores are already overwhelming but what do we do under the circumstance.Let’s face it K700,000 maid,K700,000 garden boy.Should we also charge our garden boy rentals for the sevants quarter he stays in,including water and power.Zambians we are not so rich but just share we have unlike Shamenda and his fellow ministers who use tax payers money even to buy fuel and talktime
