Republican President Michael Sata has pledged Government’s support to the Church in the country.
President Sata made the assurance in a telephone conversation today with Zambia’s senior Catholic Priest Cardinal Medardo Mazombwe who has been admitted to South Africa’s Morningside Clinic since early this month.
President Sata told Cardinal Mazombwe that the Zambian Church in general is a key stakeholder in the governance of the country because it represents society.
He further said that the Church play an essential role and deserve Government’s support and encouragement.
President Sata wondered who will take care of the Church if the political leadership does not do that.
He told Cardinal Mazombwe that it is the responsibility of the political leadership to look after Church leaders like him.
And a cheerful Cardinal Mazombwe informed President Sata that he will be discharged from hospital soon and would return home almost immediately.
Cardinal Mazombwe expressed gratitude to the Head of State and the Zambian people for the prayers and support during the period he has been unwell.
And in response, President Sata told Cardinal Mazombwe that he was delighted to hear that the cleric will be discharged from hospital soon.
This is contained in a statement released to QFM News by special assistant to the president for press and public relations George Chellah.
Early this month, Cardinal Mazombwe, 80, was evacuated to South African for specialist treatment for a spinal problem.

That is were the problem is; the gvt thinks that it is there to support the Church…its wrong. Its the gvt that needs the church’s support. Meeting the costs of Mazombwe’s medical bills by gvt is not a favor for Mazombwe but a citizen’s right. But if a church builds a hospital or a school; it is supporting the gvt as this is a gvt’s responsibility to its citizens.

I’ve been listening to the LCC PR manager on Muvi TV. I tell you she is the dullest PR manager any council has ever employed. Kaya ngati banamudoba kuti.
