Girl, 16, Sentenced To 100 Lashes For Having Sex With An Older Man
A Maldivian court has ordered 100 lashes and eight months’ house arrest for a 16-year-old girl convicted of having sex with an older man, a report said.
She ‘confessed’ to having sex with the 29-year-old after her family pressed charges.
The man was found guilty of having sex with a minor and sentenced to 10 years in jail, the private Minivan News reported.
The pair were found having intercourse in the Raa atoll, about 200 kilometres (125 miles) north of the capital island Male, the report said, adding that the girl would be flogged when she reaches adulthood.
‘As she is legally a minor, the court stated that the girl’s sentence would be implemented when she turned 18,’ Minivan News said.
It was not immediately clear when the couple had sex.
The court ruling came 10 months after UN Human Rights chief Navi Pillay urged the Maldives to stop publicly flogging women for having extra-marital sex.
Pillay noted during a visit to the country that the Maldives had progressed in safeguarding the rights of its 330,000 Sunni Muslims, but more needed to be done to protect women.
Flogging is normally handed down as a punishment by village chiefs who also act as local judges. A cane is used
The Maldives, better known as a luxury tourist destination, adopted multi-party democracy in 2008, but faced political unrest leading to the resignation of the first elected president, Mohamed Nasheed, in February.

Well, it must have been agreed between da 2. Zambia needs such version of law where the so-called minors will face punishment for seducing, lobbying and finally having sex with older men.
We are seeing many girls between the ages of 12 & 16, giving birth and/or married off in Zambian villages. It means these chaps are sexually mature at that stage.
Ah, some laws in Zambia are just archaic and rubbish. Am concerned with the case of defilement which is now used by some people as a means of settling scores. A 16-year old is manually bruised, send to visit the home of a would-be opponent at a calculated hour. And accusations of defilement emerge, the poor man is convicted to not less than, is it, 15 years now!!!!!

The defilement cases in Zambia must be graded according to age; e.g:
1) 0-7 years old >20 years imprisonment;
2) 8-12 years old > 10 years imprisonment,
3) 12-15 years old > 5 years imprisonment;
4) 16 years and above = permissible.
And where mutual agreement is proved to have been reached between the two chaps, there must be some form of punishment for the minor, to be implemented at the right time. In this way the legal system would be fair and just.

I do not support defilement. So those who have sex with minors must be severely punished. So 10 years is not enough.
However, I support the principle of punishing both partners involved in sex before or outside marriage; if both are adults (above 16 years).
It does not make sense, in the case of adultery or fornication (of course not rape) for the Courts of Law to punish only one person leaving out the other as it happens in some countries.
Consetual sex must bring pain on both parties involved in the sexual act just as it brings joy when not caught or no pregnancy results. What do you thing?
