Renard Explains Jacob Mulenga’s Omission

Herve Renard says he omitted Jacob Mulenga his final 18 to face Uganda on Saturday due to poor fitness levels.

Renard put a dumper on Mulenga’s much anticipated return when he omitted the striker from Dutch club FC Utrecht from Saturday’s 2013 Africa Cup third round, first leg qualifier against Uganda at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Zambia won that match 1-0 via a 21st minute goal scored by striker and captain Christopher Katongo.

“We were very happy to see him. He came back after a long injury he has not been in the first 11 (At Utrecht) since season start so he has to work hard,” Renard said.

Mulenga recently returned to action after a 10-month injury layoff that also saw him miss Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup triumph in Gabon.

Other players who did not make the final 18 are Israel-based midfielder William Njobvu, club-less defender Kampamba Chintu and Thomas Nyirenda from Power Dynamos.

Defender Lawrence Phiri of Progresso Associação do Sambizang in Angola and Red Arrows goalkeeper Daniel Munyau all failed to make the cut for the Uganda game.

“You can see the spirit of the squad. Even the six players who were out were with us on the bench,” Renard said.

Can you believe that once Christopher Katongo scores (other than a penault) no one else will score, not even himself? His team mates took him to task over this.

@Wemfula you want to divert the subject to Zambia’s favourite topic: Superstition. But u Also introduce some fiction:When and where did the players take issue with Katongo scoring?

@Higher Taller, you should have an ear to the ground. After Zambia beat Uganda 1:0 last Saturday, Mayuka and others took Katongo to task over the same at the hotel. Well, I’m not superstitious.

Ati Chris Nga aingisha NO one else will. he he he he he….. Alabakaka amolu. he he he. Zambians mwansekesha. let us work hard and NOT bring in Sangoma issues. It does NOT work and cannot help us. we beat Ghana at AFCON because we believed in ourselves and Ghana believed in Juju. Uganda is a tough opponent. we need to prepare hard and early for the return fixture. we have players that can rise to the occassion.

You analyse the game and not dream of a win. Uganda is scaring me. They wired Congo B 4 nil in Kampala after they were given 3 goals to 1.Will our bullets fire in kampala?. The cranes butchered Egypt, and the champs then miss AFCON. Ooooops i am cared guys

So there is nothing like juju here! In culmination, thumbs up to katongo for always saving the nation!!

In return match with Uganda Cranes.Kindly allow other players to play. The Captain should rest abit to allow more goals in Uganda.
Enough is enough and do not blame other players if we get a defeat in Kampala.Do not play stoneage type of football.Look at the second half despite making substitutions the game became even below standards.
In future we might exprience players boycotting National duties and concerntrate on their clubs. The stage where we are we have reached progressive stage because the players have come to know each other very well.

Without Clifford Mulenga the nexy cup is a pipe dream. The reason is simple. The unforgiving spirit in the coach’s heart. Remember the 2-0 victory of Uganda over Zambia in 1976? Face Reality ooh!

The technical aspect was okay, the problem was implementation on the right back,Nkausu.I can tell that the idea was to break though via Nkausu when all the other key strikers were kept at bay.But the problem was he was failing to control the balls and this led to alot of wasted passes especiaaly in the first half. His main role was to run down the flanks, open up space on the right wing and make good crosses. But this failed and as a result,i was expecting Nkausu to be substituted for Chisamba Lungu,Felix for Sakahuwa and christopher for chamanga and give Rainford a free role in the middle of the park,Isaac to back up Rainford and Mayuka to remain upfront so that we distabise them……But we had a win its fine as long as we get a minimum of a draw by any margin in Uganda, failure to which we are doomed.

They are UPND cadres who are bitter about Chris scoring for Zambia always and making others not scoring including the opponents. Viva Katongo, Viva Chipolopolo. Chris score in Kampala as well and make us win.

Clliford guys is too short, unless he runs in between pipo’s legs like a rat. He is good but I have not seen his impact in the national team. For Katongo, he knwos where to be to get the goals and he runs for them aswell. No juju guys………this is a bad draw back attitude

sometime back we use to cry that we have no strikers, but now God has given us in chris katongo who is always scoring , but again we are say complaining that he is using juju, but wny? when we played mozambique in chililabombwe last year, chris scored the first two goals and mbesuma scored the third goal so were is the juju then? zambians lets just thank God the almighty for giving us a player who has a knack for goals because such are rare.
