SATA To Supervise K27 Trillion Road Project

Republican President Michael Sata has unveiled the ambitious K27 trillion road project dubbed “Link Zambia-8000″ intended to connect outlying areas of Zambia to all the 10 provinces which will also boost interlink trade.

And President Sata has warned the Road Development Agency (RDA) not to allow unscrupulous people to win road contracts.

The President has also announced that his office will take over RDA from the Ministry of Transport, Communications, Works and Supply in order for him to supervise all road projects.

Sata

Speaking during the launch in Lusaka this morning, President Sata said the development is in line with the Patriotic Front’s promises of improving the country%u2019s road network.

He says the launching of the “Link Zambia-8000″ road project, is the beginning of the many projects to be undertaken by the PF government.

The President has since urged provincial ministers to identify key roads in their areas in order for government to develop them.

Speaking earlier, Transport, Communications, Works and Supply Minister Christopher Yaluma said government is committed to ensuring that the road network across the country is developed.

The Leopards Hill Road project would go over Chongwe River and connect Feira right through to Luangwa Bridge.

On the other side, the road would provide a link to Kasisi, Chipembi, Chalimbana and Palabana, among other areas.

This is Govt at work for the people but am not sure about supervising this mammoth project by the president would work. This is being ambitious about accountability. What the purpose of the auditor general’s office ? The president has alot on his plate would be pushing the boundaries of his responsibilities too far. What happening with other projects like the CDF ? K27billion is a lot money and should be properly accountable as well.

The Leopards Hill Road project will provide commuters with advantage of the short distances, hence saving on fuel in aggregate. The transport service providers will benefit from others hidden costs saved in a longer run of doing business; mini buses, big buses, trucks: less time and fuel. That is were my village sorry people that’s the truth economically speaking
