Zambia’s Under 20 has settled for a 2-2 draw against Mali in the Africa Youth Championship qualifier against Mali at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
The two teams will complete the two legs in a fortnight with in Bamako where Zambia can make it with either a scoreless or 1-all draw.
Mali came from behind twice to force a draw in the first leg, third round meeting.
Bornwell Silengo gave Zambia a sixth minute lead before his team mate Peter Mulenga headed in his own net five minutes later to level the terms.
Captain Reynold “Sate Sate” Kampamba put the Junior Chipolopolo up when he scored from close range in the 13th minute.
After the interval Mali who looked shaky in the first half settled down and pressed for an equaliser that came in the 67th minute via Adama Mariko.
Mariko had dribbled past the Zambian central defence led by Silengo and Mulenga before beating advancing keeper Moses Mapulanga with a low shot.
This match was preceded by a moment of silence observed in honour of former first lady Mama Betty Kaunda who died on Wednesday. The return leg takes place two weeks later.

What criteria is this that Zambia who conceded 2 goals at home can go through if they force a scoreless draw in Mali???
I thouht Zambia should go to Mali to fight for a win or a 3-all draw?

What kind of reporting is this? Zambia will be out if there’s a scoreless draw in Bamako. Away goals count double in case of a draw Ala!

So at Tumfweko away goals by Mali are to our advantage? Wrong, it is Mali that need a scoreless draw to qualify. Try reporting on Chidunu ba Tumfweko.
