President Michael Sata fired his first savor in his first address to the United Nations demanding that Africa should have permanent seats on the UN Security Council.
Addressing the High-Level meeting on the Rule of Law in the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York, President Sata urged Africans to “stand up and be counted”.
President Sata recalled that since the League of Nations up to today, Africa is more of a spectator than a participant.
He observed that Africa has no permanent members in the Security Council and yet the continent represent 54 members in the House.
He said there cannot be talk of the rule of law when there is no respect for each other.
President Sata urged all Africans to stand up and be counted.
President Sata’s statement is in line with the Committee of 10, commonly known as C10, which is an African Union (AU)-formation advocating for Africa to have two permanent seats on the UN Security Council with veto powers and extra two non-permanent seats to address the historical injustices that Africa suffered and to adhere to the geo-political realities of the modern times.
Zambia and Namibia are two countries that represent the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region on the C10.
Out of the 193 members of the UN, Africa has 54 states, making it the continent with the highest number of UN member states.
Currently the UN Security Council is composed of five permanent members %u2014 China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America %u2014 and 10 non-permanent members of which only South Africa, Morocco and Togo are from Africa. The non-permanent seats are on a two-year regional rotation basis.

How come with more member states than any other region – africa still back bencher? In fact the real power of the UN is in the big five. historical injustice. by the way it does matter to hav a permanent place with veto powers at UN.

The only politcian we have here in Zambia who beleives that worth should always be distributed equitably. The only politician who when opens his mouth, talks about the poor man and woman. The only politician who is genuinely concerned about the downtrodded. The only politicin who is not proud of being number one citizen, he can sit on the floor, on stool, he can drink water from the well where a commoner from the village drinks. The only politician who doesn’t carry mineral water wherever he is. AND THAT POLITICIAN IS “PRESIDENT MICHAEL CHILUFYA SATA”

I note with disappointment the rather poor spelling of words not only in Tumfweko but also in Lusaka Times. Today someone should look at “SAVOR” when the writer meant “SALVO”. Paying attention to detail defines character. I am sending this because I enjoy Tumfweko.

Africans are not proud to be Africans. Thats why noone takes them seriously. If you look in that UN Assembly Asians have Asian names, Spanish have Spanish names, Arabs have arabic names only Africans will carry foreign names. They will call themselves Michael, Muhammad Alfonsio. Who will take you seriously when you are busy hiding from your identity?

I am proud to be an African and have Michael Chilufya Sata as my Republican President. Keep it up Mr. President.
UN must be serious with Africa’s involvement in its activities – Africa must be respected as a true strategic partner in global politics.
