MMD-UPND Meet To Discuss Way Forward

UPND president Hakainde Hichilema says the UPND/MMD working group would soon reach consensus on which party will contest the Mufumbwe Constituency by-election as opposed to people suggesting that discussions between the two parties have stalled.

Mr. Hichilema said that speculations going on that the two parties had failed to reach consensus on who should contest the seat were incorrect and uncalled for.

He said both MMD and UPND were determined and committed to working together in order to strengthen unity and the opposition ahead of the by-election.
Mr. Hichilema said that no official communication had been issued to state which party would contest the seat as discussions were still going on.

“We have a small team that we have out in place to look at that issue and it is our hope that soon the people of Mufumbwe will be availed with a candidate who will fully be supported by both parties,” he said.
Mr. Hichilema described the attempts to divide the opposition over the Mufumbwe seat by the PF as baseless and uncalled for.

And Mr. Hichilema has confirmed that both the MMD and the UPND had a caucus meeting over President Michael Sata’s speech in parliament last week on Friday.

“Yes I can confirm that our Members of Parliament had a meeting with their colleagues from the MMD at the (MMD) secretariat where they discussed among other things the speech by Mr. Sata in Parliament last week.

That speech was hollow and lacks Presidential etiquette. There is nothing our Members will debate and we asked them as a party to meet and see which direction they should take when it comes to debating the speech,” he said.

Mr. Hichilema said that President Sata had missed another chance to inspire the people of Zambia by giving governments policy on poverty reduction, “unemployment, education and health as well as road infrastructure development. The President failed to give direction on how Zambia will run in the next one years.”

The Members of Parliament who attended the meeting said that President Sata’s written speech to parliament was diluted with the verbatim speech he made to the National Assembly last week and that would not endorse that.

“We have resolved that we shall not support and debate the speech because there is nothing to debate. It is full of insults, drama and uncoordinated and contradicting activities. Our people did not vote for us here to sweep such issues under the carpet and we shall make out position known in parliament today,” an MMD MP said.

HH is nothing in Zambia but something in southern, how would u become president if u can’t campaign in other areas Northern,CB,Luapula and Muchinga provinces are the major president makers, sharing votes in other provinces make it even waste, tell HH to be going in the above mentioned areas than coming to Livingstone as the only way he can become president

Poor HH. I always laugh at how much HH is called and criticized. Some of the names names he is being called are honestly unpalatable. All in all, if you look at his (HH) critics, it is the same rhetoric, southern province, under five, tonga, etc. I have yet to find a critic that seriously criticizes the man on facts and clear intelligence. It is just the kaponya story of you, this, you that nonsense. In the meantime, viva HH. Keep on with the good works. The way things are going, 2016 is yours.

@JJ,THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT IT IS PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR MMD A PARTY THAT RULED ZAMBIA FOR THE PASSED 20YEARS AND LOST ELECTIONS LAST YEAR,TO BOUNCE BACK IN 2016.WE NEED TO GIVE CHANCE TO OUR FRIENDS IN UPND,TO RULE AND PROVE THEIR HAKAI-ECONOMIC STRATERGIES WHICH MIGHT BE DIFFERENT FROM UKWA-ECONOMICS AND CHILUBAISM OF MMD.VIVA HH, VIVA UPND.LET US BE FAIR TO THIS COUNTRY,RECYCLED POLITICIANS SINCE COLONIAL TIME SURE?

The current first draft constitution has a clause that aims at reducing tax payers moneys through uncalled for by-elections. A candidate who got second position in a previous election would be appointed to take over each time a vacancy occured. It will be great and a great lesson to many if Masumba loses this election.

everyday there is one name that is always on the lips of PF cadres and PF officials, the name HH. they cannot stop mentioning his name because they are feeling the fire. this is what happens when a government fails, the PF have now run out of excuses and all they talk about is HH. five years will soon be up and PF would have spent it talking About HH instead of development. then this dull, useless, idiotic government will be kicked out nicely

Threats, insults and violence against our party president by PF are too much. It is getting out of hand and needs urgent intervention. Mr. Hichilema is not the only person to have lost an election, but he has been considered as a bitter man by PF and its cadres. Mr. Hichilema was summoned by the police, to show solidarity, cadres escorted him to police as his cadres; they were tear gassed and beaten by the police. MUVI TV reported Police vehicles carrying PF cadres with all sorts of weapons to attack UPND and its president in Kanyama, but they were not arrested. The post news paper reports that PF cadres came to attack Hichilema at the cathedral of the holy cross during Mama Betty’s funeral. It further reported that a uniformed police officer whispered to Hakainde about the violent PF cadres, but the same police did nothing to the violent cadres. PF has nothing to accuse HH of, they only have simple terms like bitter, under five, they want to put their tribalism tag on HH
As zambian youth, we are requesting the government through the IG of police to take control of the PF cadres, we are not happy. HH is the only true leader of this generation without kaponya behaviour

Dr Kaingu is my new role model. In fact, he should have urinated on that trush.

There is no way Sata can yap a different speech and let the members debate the one he should have delivered in the house. In paliament, you debate on what the president said and not what he should have said.

Useless opposition, point out the main weakness of the speech and explain it to the general population of the country. Unemployment should not be used as a weapon by the opposition, MMD should shoulder the blame and UPND should not pretend as if they did not about the unemployment levels in the country. They had a share of K300 billion during the failed constitution making process, imagine what those billions could do if they were invested in CBU or UNZA. These loose coalitions are having a negative effect on multi-party democracy in this country, instead of parties evolving we are been presented with a a fake front which cannot govern as a coalition government, this is wrong! If they want to work together they should join as one party.
