Kalaba Humbled By CAF Nomination

2012 African Player of the year nominee Rainford Kalaba says it is an open race for this year’s honours.

The 2012 Africa Cup winning midfielder said he was honoured to have made the preliminary 32-man shortlist for this year’s that includes Ivorian Didier Drogba, Black Stars striker Andre Ayew and Senegal forward Demba Ba.

“I am very humbled and happy,” Kalaba said.

“I can only wait for the final decision but I think everyone has a fair chance of winning.”

The TP Mazembe midfielder is one of four Zambia’s hoping to make the final 10-man shortlist to be announced at the end of October.

Zambia captain Christopher Katongo, striker Emmanuel Mayuka and Kalaba’s team mate at Mazembe Stophira Sunzu are also vying for honours to be presented on December 20 in Accra.

Meanwhile, Kalaba and Sunzu have also made the preliminary 34-man shortlist for the 2012 African-based player award.

They are joined on that shortlist by their Mazembe teammate and compatriot Given Singuluma.
