Thieves Who Stole Cancer Hospital Equipments Granted Bail

Five suspects accused of vandalizing and stealing equipment at the cancer diseases hospital in Lusaka have been granted two million kwacha cash bail.

Lusaka Principle Resident Magistrate Alaidah Chulu used her discretion in granting the five bail further ordering them to present two working sureties each.

The five could not take plea as the Director of Public Prosecutions-DPP- has not given prosecutors consent to proceed to trial.

Magistrate Chulu however explained the charge to the five suspects.

The five suspects have been identified as Maxwell Mwale, Jeremiah Ntalasha, Emanuel Silupumbwa, Steven Matoka and Evidence Chilufya.

Mwale and Ntalasha have also been charged with one count of breaking into a building committing a felony.

The duo allegedly broke into the Zambia institute of diplomacy studies and stole among other things two DVD players, four computers, one safe, one cash box and sixteen books valued at over thirty five million kwacha.

That is the problem with Zambian laws. The bastards may get e very light sentence for having caused much suffering and anguish to our sick brothers and sisters. Why grant them bail? They should hsve been detained in Mukobeko for at least six months!!!!

Iwe Principle Resident Magistrate Alaidah Chulu just as much we respect you as a learned collegue but here common sense and not law must prevail!!!

Which one of the two cases is the most serious? Iris Kaingu or the case of those who had stolen the cancer equipment? And which of these cases would the offender most likely to be bailed?
