SATA Initiated The SHUNNING Of National Events When He Was In Opposition

BY ROWLAND CHEWE

Zambian politics are really interesting as they are practiced by some of the people who are either dull, myopic or suffer from serious amnesia. If they don’t have any brain disorders which are depressing their memory, then they are just qualified hypocrites who are ready to live and freely move and talk hypocritically.

All this language is emanating from the sentiments from some senior leaders of political society over Independence Day celebrations.

Gerry Chanda castigated the opposition UPND and MMD presidents for not attending the Independence Day celebrations. He described these men of substance as childish and didn’t not value this cardinal day of Zambia. I quote

Lusaka province minister Colonel Gerry Chanda has described the move by some opposition leaders to shun this year’s independence celebrations as childish. Colonel Chanda says it is sad to see individuals aspiring to lead the country not respecting the current office holder who was put in office by the people of Zambia. He says some leaders of the opposition have just proved to the citizens that they do not deserve to be leaders of this country because they do not respect the choice and decisions that the citizens make. Speaking in an interview, Colonel Chanda says it is now a clear indication that some politicians only want to ascend to power for selfish motives and not to serve the nations. (End of Quote.Lusakatime 24/10/2012)

These sentiments were also produced by the President of Zambia, Mr. Michael Sata who strongly denounced the non-availability of UNDP and MMD presidents, Hakainde Hichilema and Nevers Mumba respectively at Independence Day commemoration. The president described these opposition leaders as being unserious with the most important aspects of the country, and hence told Zambians to see on how uncaring these leaders are to the welfare of Zambians.

But these PF political guys are very interesting characters who have already forgotten just about 18 months ago when they saw no need to attend such important occasions when called upon.

Almost the whole period Mr. Sata was in opposition, he never turned up for any national occasion even when invited. He saw no need for him and all his officials to attend such functions. In fact he could publicly denounce and castigate any member of PF who turned up for such cardinal aspects. The only time when I saw some PF cadres attending the youth day, was when Frank Bwalya organized them to show some red cards to former President, Rupiah Banda.

Sata

But then there was no time that Mr.Sata ever apologized for such a crude behavior, meaning he never regrets for that. Independence Day for Mr. Sata in opposition never made any sense and saw no value in dealing with events which define Zambia’s pride. The man never cooperated with any of the former Presidents partening these national days. In fact he trivialized such days and even demeaned anyone having regard for these days.

The only occasions he fully availed himself directly and indirectly even without invitation was labour demonstrations by Labour Unions in both Public service and Mines. I remember when he found himself among the civil servants who were demonstrating over the tax bands introduced in 2003.Again when KCM miners in 2005 and other Chambishi miners were rioting in 2011, some PF cadres were sent by Sata to catalyze the whole system. Thus one of the gentlemen who today is a PF councilor with other cadres were arrested by the police and taken to court, but were later dubiously and corruptly acquitted by one the Kitwe magistrate courts.

During the whole period Mr. Sata was in opposition, we were made to believe that the national occasions were nothing and that it why we lost interest, hence saw no need to attend such. He made us to strongly believe that such events were only attended by some ruling political party cadres and few charlatans of oppositions like Edith Nawakwi. For the past 10 years, our generation was induced and convinced by the then opposition PF that Independence Day was a useless event which we needn’t to take seriously. Our president warned all of us not to attend such events when called upon by the President of Zambia. Many civil servants who most of them were PF cadres stopped paying attention to such events as they were also made to believe that they were just for MMD.Many teachers on the Copperbelt who were in the PF boat, even stopped organizing their pupils for match past and celebration during independence and youth days.

So we are waiting to be told by MR SATA that these national days are actually very important for Zambia. Let him explain why such events have become very important today. Is it because he feels they are only important when he has assumed presidency? So Independency Day is only important when Kenneth Kaunda’s boy, Michael Sata, is leading such events and the country and not when others are doing so. If so we would describe such a person as Selfish, greedy and Childishly Egocentric.

So let me tell Col Gerry Chanda, the Lusaka Province Minister to stop insulting his President and Pay Master, Mr. Michael Sata, because all that these opposition leaders are not doing today, were actually initiated by this same current president. It is only few years’ back when all these were happening, and so am sure the childishness in Mr. Sata showed for not attending such events is still very fresh. Chanda has described the opposition party leaders as CHILDISH for no doing what SATA failed to do for 10 years, attending important national events. Can we say Sata is childish…Yes.

Mr.Sata must apologize for INITIATING such a childish thing of Shunning Independence Days, Youth Days and Africa Freedom Days even after being invited for the past 10 years. Let him and his tribes mate, Gerry Chanda come out in open to denounce their past behavior of demeaning not only the presidents that used to invite them, but also these important days. Let them tell Zambians how sorry they are for not showing any seriousness towards the most important events for this country, otherwise all the insults they are producing must make them feel ashamed of themselves. If these guys are not ashamed of their past events, then we can conclude that they are spiritually possessed and need serious prayers.

If SATA doesn’t apologize and then denounce his past and crude behavior and acknowledge that he misled many Zambians into believing that all national events were USELESS, and then explain to these same Zambians that he did that for 10 years because he, Sata, was childish and playing cheap politics, then the opposition will not learn and hence continue shunning these events.

In fact despite 10 years of being childish (according to Gerry Chanda’s theory) and unserious by shunning vital national events, Mr.Sata was still voted for to be President of Zambia. So am sure even the opposition leaders feel adopting Sata’s formula of shunning such events would lead them into state house.

Should these main opposition political leaders decide to start attending such events, they must be very careful with not only the most probable attacks by PF hooligans but also the verbal attacks and embarrassments through awkward jokes by Mr.Sata. He personally embarrassed Rupiah Banda at State house when a Luncheon was held for the Chipolopolo boys after lifting the AFCON trophy.

Love you Zambians

We’ll said sir!! People forget easily. I think these national events are heavily politicised such that the oposition feel out of place attending them. No wonder HEMCS shuned them while in opposition and. now ,the major oposition parties MMD and UPND! We need to revisit the way our national events are arranged to avoid over politicising them. After all, events such as the independence day celebrations are for every Zambian irrespective of their political affiliation. God bless our great nation!!

And you the author of this useless story, you are useless just as the opposition. so you mean when your friend does something which is not good, you should do the same. To hell together with the opposition.

Sata ”INITIATED SHUNNING”! What? Sata formed PF in 2001. Lets examin opposition leaders who came before Sata. Mazoka formed UPND in 1998, 3 years before sata. In those 3 yrs, how many times did Mazoka attend state functions? NON! So who ”initiated”. Dean Mungomba, as ZADECO leader? How many times? Did u ever see Christon Tembo there? General Miyanda formed Heritage same year as Pf. Did he go to state house? Gwen Konie? So imwe ba author Chewe, stop think we’ve just arrived in zambia so u can smear us with bullshhhit. Bukala bwenu.

Its a pity that some people are peddling lies that president SATA initiated shunning away from state functions when he was in the opposition. This is totally a big lie even if you hurt someone.President Sata is not the first opposition leader, there has been others before him.Did Dean Mungomba attend state functions?Did Mazoka attend state functions?I will be the happiest person if we begin talking of reconciliation and embracing one another regardless of political affiliation. It just doesn’t send a good image to the outside world to learn it that Zambian opposition leaders boycotted independence day celebration. After all those who do so are boycotting the people of Zambia not president Sata or PF.If HH and his elder brother Mumba are still hurt with the victory of H.E SATA,you will remain hurt in your life because none of you will ever be the president.

The serpent deceived Eve but Jesus gave us power to trample upon serpents and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the devil. Praise God the serpent even if it’s a cobra will never deceive us again. HH and NM keep your lamps burning and never give up. Moses chose to suffer affliction with God’s people at Goshen than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.

The fact that, someone does something wrong today does not justify the other to do the same.It will be better for these oppostion guys to show leadership by attending these functions otherwise we will continue to see this type of politics which is old and retrogressive. Two wrongs do not make a right.
