GBM Donates K100 million To UCZ Church From His Own Pocket

DEFENCE Minister Geoffrey Mwamba has called for unity and continued support of the Church towards Government’s efforts of improving the welfare of vulnerable people in the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Mwamba has donated K100 million towards construction of the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Chainda All Saints Congregation in Lusaka where his late mother, Mwamba Lukashi used to worship.

The minister said the Church should remain an important partner of the Government in delivering the much needed services to people in all areas of human development.

Defence minister Geofrey Mwamba aka GBM

Mr Mwamba, who was flanked by his wife, Chama and other family members was speaking in Lusaka yesterday at a special fundraising worship service at All Saints Congregation in Chainda Township.

He praised the congregation for embarking on a massive project to build a modern building with a seating capacity of 2,000, and a craft skills development centre for carpentry, metal work and tailoring.

“I wish to commend the leadership of this Church for having embarked on this enormous task to which I have noted with great pleasure the amount of efforts and work that has been done so far,” he said.

He said the Church initiative was in line with the Patriotic Front (PF) Government’s manifesto to empower people, especially the vulnerable groups with life skills.

And delivering a sermon, Lodwell Siame of UCZ’s Mount Olives Congregation in Chongwe said the escalating poverty levels in the country would decrease if all Zambians change their mindsets towards work.

“Don’t be deceived that money will fall into your pockets. Rise and start a small entrepreneurship then God will see your initiatives and assist you. Let’s change our mindset for the better to fight poverty,” Reverend Siame said.

He said President Michael Sata had shown a productive way of developing Zambia and that it was up to citizens to join hands with the Government.

Earlier, UCZ All Saints Congregation minister-in-charge Rev Francis Mambilima said the Church would continue to speak for the poor and collaborate with the Government in fostering peace and development.

    “Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do… do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” -Mat 6:2.3. Maybe we should blame the ‘uninvited’ media.

    Bravo ba GBM – it would have been better if you gave K50m to construct, then the other K50m to sponsor youth church congregants to study at ZICAS or NIPA to empower them. OR use the other K50m as venture capital (seed money) to get entrepreneurial church members started on their business ideas.

    Good gesture GBM. Fault Finder, I think the motive of GBM was not to show off, which was condemned in the passage that you quoted. I think this was genuine assistance to the Church where GBM’S MOTHER CONGREGATED.

    Many more rounds to come. So far no knockdown just jabs and a few upper cuts!!!!

    There is much joy in giving than there is in receiving, but when I give you will just see my gift. I try my best to stay in the background – no media coverage. Try it and you will feel the happiness that Jesus was talking about.ok, here it is;
