Jacob Mulenga Fires Afcon Warning

Jacob Mulenga fired a brace for Dutch side FC Utrecht in a 5-1 win at Willem II to sound a big warning to Zambia rivals at the AFCON.

His double at the weekend has shot Utrecht from sixth to fourth place on the table.

They now have 21 points from 11 games played after their win over second from bottom Willem and are just six points behind leaders PSV.

Mulenga was on target in the 44th minute with Utrecht’s second of the day and later scored the visitors’ final goal in the 84th minute.

His brace brings to three goals the Zambia striker has scored in as many games since returning to action after losing his father early last month.

Mulenga now has four goals from nine Eredivisie games he has played so far this season.

The 28-year-old striker who returned to action this season after a 10-month injury layoff is part of Zambia coach Herve Renard’s 24-member squad who take on Bafana Bafana in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at Soccer City on November 14.

Mulenga’s return to form is also a boost for Renard ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup finals especially after missing Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup triumph in Gabon due to injury.

Chipolopolo are drawn in Group C of next year’s AFCON along with Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.

He can blend well with Mayuka and Mbesuma. But Mbesuma should be advised to reduce weight by about 15kgs.We will depend on Sakuwaha,Mbesuma,Mayuka and Jacob since Chris has a drought.
