2012 CAF African-based Player award nominee Rainford Kalaba believes the honour will go to a Zambian.

The Zambia midfielder is vying for this year’s CAF African-based player award together compatriot and his club mate at TP Mazembe Stopilla Sunzu including three other contenders.

“I and Stoppila are still young and we have a long way to go in our football careers,” Kalaba told the Zambia Daily Mail.

“If I win, Stopilla will congratulate me and if he wins, I will congratulate him.

“This is just the beginning and this (nomination) will inspire us  to work hard and eye bigger awards in the future.”

Kalaba and defender Sunzu were instrumental Zambia’s 2012 Africa Cup triumph in Gabon last February.

The TP Mazembe duo will battle for honours with Mohamed Aboutreika of Egypt, Tunisian Yousse Msakni and his Cameroonian club mate at Esperance Yannick N’Djeng.

Meanwhile, Zambia captain Christopher Katongo is in the running for the coveted 2012 African player of the year.

I fully surpport Mr X. Francophone countries are no better than colonialists, they want to always stiffle anglophone voices when it comes to football. It was a great moment when Zambia triumphed at Afcon 2012.
